Hi guys!

I know this question comes up regularly but I am a bit perplexed. My site which ranked well and was receiving a fair amount of traffic from Yahoo, MSN et al for over a year (I submited to Inktomi in June 2003) stopped showing up in the SERPs about three weeks ago.

Now this has happened before but the site was back after abt a week or so, so I did not stress too much, but now it's almost a month and it's GONE from MSN and Yahoo.

The perplexing thing is that Yahoo still shows over 450 links to my website using link:http://www.mydomain.com.....

Luckily Google started ranking me at almost the same time (after more than a year, NONE of my sites do well in Google, it's all Yahoo and MSN for me) so I did not lose any real traffic....

Sad thing is it could have been DOUBLE what I get now if the results were still coming from Yahoo and MSN.

There is absulotely no dirty tricks with the website that it should have been banned or anything. Did well for over a year and now just gone for over 3 weeks allready. Yet showing 450 backlinks in Yahoo?

Is it still in the index then?

Anybody any ideas?

If the site you're talking about is the one in your signature then it still is in the index of Yahoo (#6) and MSN (#5).

One way of seeing if you are in the index without having to wade through 100's of results pages for your keywords or whatever is to take a snippit from one of your pages and do a search for that. In this case I searched for "32 out of 13 Million" - including the quotes.

A similar thing happened to me on one of my other sites, except I completley fell out of google for the keywords I was targeting (you could still find me by searching site:mydomain.com in google) and my traffic from yahoo and msn increased.

Did you change your keyword density? The trouble is that yahoo and msn like a heavier density and google likes a more subtle approach, the trick is to find a middle ground and gun for quality backlinks using the keyword in your anchor text.

I haven't touched the site for month's. It was doing very well In yahoo/msn for over a year. I made no changes or anything else.

It was just still running well the one day and missing the next. Seemed to have been dropped from the Inktomi index supplying MSN and Yahoo.

Once again, the back links are still showing (over 450) but the site itself cannot be found anywhere.

I have resubitted it but with no luck. I own many websites and they all do very well in Yahoo and MSN, it's just this one that has dissapeard completely but for the backlinks showing if i do link:http://www.mydomain.com

Once again, there is no funny business with the website, no black hat seo or undue stuff. just a normal html website with decent text and content....

Like I said, it was doing well for over a year. i had paid to have it included in inktomi over a year ago, could it be that? I have not used the new service or renewed my subscription, but it should still show since yahoo does it's own crawls?

I would like to have my site back in there but I dnt know where to go from here? I am not going to use yahoo's site submit service as I find it ridiculus to pay $0.40 per click after you have paid to get it in there allready.

My other sites that were submitted to Inktomi over a year ago is still in there and doing very well. it's just this one... I cannot understand what's up....

Perhaps you might have inadvertently used some 'rare' spamming method ... best to put up your url for experienced SEO's to review.
