The Google dance seems to be incredibly late this time around... anyone know why this is, and when we can expect it to finally happen? I'm guessing it must be highly imminent now...

I've been noticing some minor fluctuations and different number counts from the www,www2, and www3 Google sites over the last few days.

That's probably not due to the everflux. But, who knows. Google sometimes delays their update depending upon a lot of things. If they are trying out some changes to their system, that could slow down the timing of the dance. But, the timetable they follow is their own, and if they want to delay an update for any reason, they will.

Hopefully it will be good to all of us. I rarely see any changes because of Google's updates. And, for me, that's a good thing.

I had a feeling last month that it was the start of the end of the traditional "end of the month updates". Whereas before, we'd see updates start during the last 10 days of the month, they are now looking to be during the first 10 days of the following month.

They were calculating pagerank yesterday (at least for two of my sites) which is usually a good sign that the update is less than 36 hours away. Then again, that's not always the case, either.

During the 36-48 hours prior to the dance, you'll notice that linkto's come and go on various sites. For smaller sites, it's tough to catch this happening, but on large sites, it can take hours and it's easy to spot. The PR gets calculated at this time (at least that's what I've been able to determine is happening) but it won't show until the dance is over.

I started noticing today that the PR on some sites is has been going from the 3 or 4, whatever the sites rank is, to a full grey bar. If I check back later or sometimes simply hit the refresh button the Pagerank changes. Do you think this is the result of what you mentioned here?

yup. Grey bar happens for other reasons, too, but it does happen a lot more frequently during this period leading up to the update.

Yup. They appear, disappear, appear, disappear. Actually, that starts before the actual update usually. It's quite common.

our site has been bouncing between position 7 and 11 the last few days. We had been sitting at 11 for the entire month, I'm hoping this is a sign that we'll jump into the top 10 with the next dance.

The dance went from March 7th through March, 12th last month, which was late too.

The people at the efactory Google Dance site are speculating that this dance might not take place until the second half of April...

No dance yet. It's coming. Really.

One thing I've learned (and I've learned a lot, but it takes a lot to make me change my mind about things) is that if you have to worry about the dance, then you aren't ready for what it might bring you.

Google will dance. It'll also have Everflux. If you have a good site, then each month (when it does dance) you will see a little bit better traffic from them. Eventually, that traffic growth will level off. Period.

Then you can go to work and try to increase your level again. And then you can have another anurism. (Did I spell that right?).

The sales on my movie site increased 12% on the month I ignored Google and worried about converting the traffic it was already sending me.

The next month, I did the same thing and the sales increased 42% (I got better at converting traffic, not getting it).

When the day ends, you have to ask yourself - am I ready for the traffic that does come when google does its dance?

Don't wait for the dance. Keep working on your site. Make it good. Make it rock and roll. Make it the best site. Then, when the dance does come, you're ready - and the next month, you'll have a better site to show for it.

I like that one. It comes in useful sometimes, especially when you just don't have the proper words to express yourself.

But, I'd rather use this one:

:glasses:

and, there are a bunch of others available from sites mentioned in this thread:

Smileys and humourous images, etc.

The dance has started - check out http://www-ex.google.com and look at the backlinks for Yahoo! - you can do some searches on
your site(s) and get a preview of the end of the dance...

Hi polarlight,

Welcome to the forums wavey.gif

No big deal with the url... You were pretty close with the BBCode. For a URL it's like this:

CODE
[url=http://www-ex.google.com]http://www-ex.google.com[/url]

I catch myself using html instead of BBCode all of the time.

That's a very useful link. Thanks!
