I'm starting what will be quite an extensive link building exercise - both paid and free. To date I've always managed them in Excel but I started wondering if there were any other options out there.

Can anyone give me any recommendations?

Excel has always worked well for me, no matter the size of the campaign. Software always seems to be too restrictive and doesn't offer any real advantages. If someone knows of something truly mindblowing though, I'd love to test it out...

Never used anything myself Sophie other than excel. http://www.download.com/Site-Management/31...tml?tag=stbc.gp is the category that Zues is in. Maybe have a browse and see what you find.

Your thoughts on this greatly appreciated!!!

<added>By thoughts I mean, if you find something that bites, let m,e know!!! Does that make sense?? I need lunch</added>

Arelis http://www.axandra-link-popularity-tool.co...om/download.htm appears to have gained quite a bit of, er, popularity. However, I've tried it and found it a little restrictive. I have written a script that finds competitors for a search term and then populates a database with pages that link to those. I then go through and work out which ones are worthy of further attention.

If you're looking for a software package, you might look at SEO Studio here: http://www.trendmx.com/

There's a free demo version to try out. I only discovered it a few days ago and haven't tried anything extensive with it, but I like it so far.

Having said that, Excel (or OpenOffice.org if you're into open source applications  ) can be very useful and much more adaptable to any individual job.

You could try posting here and see if anyone has some more advice:

Welcome to Cre8asite sterlingejf. wavey.gif

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll give it a whirl and post my findings.

I do agree that Excel is a flexible option and I'm ok with continuing to use it if need be. I guess I just started wondering if there was anything else out there.

Hi all: If you want to do a reciprocal links campaign the best way I have found is to use Arelis to mine the sites and weed out the fluff (it puts everything you delete into a filter so you don't mine it up again) then export and import into a program called ReciprocalManager (RM).

RM runs off a mySQL database and needs apache/mySQL/php. When you inport you mined sites it will create the catagories for you. RM will automate the whole process as you can select how many of the imported sites you want to email your request to.

In the request it includes a hyperlink to the link you give them in your directory and they can edit the title/description/name/email/URL. Then they take the code you send them in the email and give you a link and adde that link into the reciprocal link field. When they click submit the RM program checks for that link and if it is there they get there link posted automatically on your site.

You can set a cron job to check weeking the links you have been given. If they are down RM will email, giving them a link where they can correct the problem, 3 times and after that automatically remove there link.

Also you can stop 3 way links if you want. Then they have to give you a link from the time you gave them a link at.

Also if some one requests a link you just send them to your Add A Link page and they can do it all automatically.

It works very very well.
