A very Happy New Year to everyone who expressed interest in SMA-UK at the end of last year.
We’re delighted to say that over 200 companies and individuals have now contacted us requesting further information in the 2 months since we publicly announced the setting up of the Working Group and we have already received applications from about half of the numbers required to make SMA-UK a viable operation. For those of you who haven’t applied yet, please do so! The easiest way is to apply online at http://www.sma-uk.org/membership/. Simply fill in the application form and press the button! The sooner we get to the magic number of 50 applications – the sooner we can organise the first true meeting of potential members, ratify the Constitution, elect our board and get the show on the road. For those of you who have applied, many thanks – your support is very much appreciated. The SMA-UK idea has now been picked up by many search engine marketing professionals across the world and late December saw the first meeting of the SMA-EU working group which elected Mikkel deMibb Svendsen as acting President of the group with attendees at the meeting from France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Holland, Spain, Hungary, the UK and North America (who are considering forming their own SMA organisation - SMA-NA). We look forward to working together with these regional groupings in promoting our industry worldwide in a professional manner and hopefully influencing media buyers as they consider search engine marketing in their advertising mix. Although there will always be regional variations in the way that professional bodies are administered, we are united in the aims of being accountable to our membership and accurately reflecting and answering the needs of both professionals in our industry and potential clients looking for accurate information when determining the value of search engine marketing in their individual areas. We look forward to making SMA-UK your voice for our profession in the UK in 2005 and urge you (if you have not already done so) to sign up now so that you can influence the direction your organisation will take. For too long we have been viewed as exponents of various “black arts” and our skills often viewed with suspicion. You now have the opportunity to change how our industry is viewed. We look forward to you joining with us to help make that change! May all of us working on building SMA-UK wish you a prosperous and successful 2005. Posted on behalf of all at the Search Marketing Association, UK working group. |
