Well lots of news. MSN with its new search engine. Google with lots of profits. Luckily John Battelle found that Yahoo! hasn't been idle. There's a new Y!Q Demobar. Y!Q gives you Related search results on-the-fly!

Actually it's a novel idea, which the others might do well to copy. I don't know about you but I have so many toolbars that I can hardly see the web page. sad.gif

I was playing around with it today.

What I wanted to know is whether where I was, when I conducted the text search or "asked Y!Q" something, influenced the results.

I'm still not sure about it. For example, using me as an example, say I'm reading about usability testing and I want to quickly look at who else offers usability services, does the fact *that I offer them* and *have a web site about it* influence the results I get?

Taken further, say you're interested in the history of Iraq and you're an author or reporter who has published articles on the subject. Say, while reading an article from another web site about ancient Mesopotamians, you decide to look up "the decline of Mesopotamia during the Kassite dynasty" that appears on that web page you're reading. Would you get your own stuff that's published on your web site first, or is the search capable of being objective in its search results?

Still, for someone like me who reads, sees something that triggers an "I want to know about that" response, the ability to highlight it and look for more info, right then and there while I'm thinking or reading about it, is very cool.
