And it comes straight from the horse's mouth.

Mighty good of Yahoo to keep us up to date. :glasses:

P.S. No, this is not an April Fool's joke. Really.
All this and a sense of humor, too. :-)

I'll have to check it out. Yahoo has moved up in my client's referrals.

I meant that without a disclosure like "this is not an April Fool's Joke," their timing would have made people wonder. It still makes me wonder. wink.gif Ahhh well, the wheels on the bus go round and round. :-)

That's good to hear John. Yahoo definitely know how to talk to the SEO community. I get the feeling we'll be hearing more of them in the future. biggrin.gif

>>OT Alert!!

Does moldy fromage have something to do with suspicious email headers?

Taking this back on topic:

Has anyone else notice any movement in Yahoo? How are you finding the results? Good, better?

There is movement, and the cache has definitely been cleaned out. I am seeing some content that had not shown up before.

I'll be interested in what people who position for a living will have to say about the relevance of current SERPS.

On further examination...
Does Yahoo's update have the feeling of being even more different from Google??

NEW sites with very little content and no incoming links are getting top ratings for keywords that are in their title and h1. My concern is that spammers will be able to take advantage of this. I wonder what filtering Yahoo has going on under the surface.

The results do seem to be targeted. Local search shows potential. The search for small town, service, put a few more web sites for specific businesses in the top 100. I would love to see what some of these little businesses could do with the addition of excellent SEO.

I've been playing with terms that are in the 30,000 range and less, using keywords that are one generality and something more specific

One example =
small town, service
and then scanning for a specific amateur-designed site of a business I know

Yahoo, 117 results
industry-specific niche directories came first.
The business's domain is at 50 on Yahoo.
mentions of the site owner's professional memberships start appearing at 51

Google, 461 results
Google's results start with google directories and yellow pages.
The sites of professional organizations that the business owner belongs to come up a few times in the top 100.
I also saw niche directories in which he has small paid listings.
I quit looking for his site after the first 100.

Can't get more like shooting fish in a barrel than under 500 results. Maybe. wink.gif Depending on how bullet proof the serps of big directories and yellow pages are, in comparison to the sites they list.

Anyone else?

I'm still looking at it closely, and am a little hesitant to draw too many conclusions yet.

There has been a fair amount of changes. Maybe more than I've seen from Yahoo before at any one time. And some results do appear a little spammy. But, I think that it needs some more study before even trying to draw any conclusions.
