FT.com article says
QUOTE IAC/InterActiveCorp, the internet conglomerate headed by media mogul Barry Diller, will on Wednesday unveil a revamp of its newly acquired Ask Jeeves search engine to show fewer paid links, bringing its strategy more in line with big rivals such as Google.
IAC, whose brands include HSN home shopping network and travel website Expedia, said too many paid links clutters search results on Ask Jeeves. The revamp of Ask Jeeves, the number four US search engine, will include reducing paid links, increasing the amount of direct advertising, and improving search in discrete “vertical” consumer categories such as concert tickets. Rusty, Obviously without the pressure of hitting quarterly numbers as a separately traded independent company, Jeeves can concentrate on being much more user friendly and gaining market share. Another benefit of the IAC merger thats never really mentioned. Jeeves was very obviously constrained before the merger.
Here is to hoping that they now work on improving their portals (MyWay, iWon and Excite) as much as they work on improving Ask.com. |

And also Rusty, next time you speak with Lanzone can you please ask him how in the world they can put a link for Bloglines on Ask.com (as they do now) with no link for their #1 portal MyWay? It makes no sense.
Its such a natural to link up a search site with a portal. They have already done it for Blogs, why not a portal link? MyWay currently has tons more users than Bloglines. The cross promotion would be fabulous. |

In fact from reading the ratings MyWay has more users than Ask.com itself. To not connect the two with a link on Ask.com is beyond belief. They have had MyWay for over a year now. Why not offer your search users on Ask.com email and other portal services with a linkup to MyWay? No, they link up Bloglines instead.
Sometimes you just gotta shake your head and wonder where the logic is. |

I agree with you, rustybrick. It's an indication of how they intend to grow their stable of search properties, rather than just living with their past glories.
