I do find that some of these marketing companies pester you - that's what their sales staff are generally paid to do. However, I use Bowmac Internet to promote two of my businesses' websites, and dealt with a John and a Dean, both of whom were helpful and straightforward. (I think it depends on who you get speaking to.) Bowmac Internet have been doing well, and were certainly an improvement on the company that I used previously.

Fair comment. My post was not about their performace, but about the constant calling after you have said no I am not interested!

I have paid Bowmac over £600 for there services and I was also pestered by Dean who made all these wonderful promises. They were awful, they said that they would get me top 10 listing with google and other top search engines. They did not do this and as for the guarantee its not worth the paper or email its printed on. They managed to get me 10 obscure listing for some strange search engine DO NOT USE THESE people they are con artist. If anyone would like to see my search engine results from this company ask and i will forward it to you.

However i was contacted by someone who said that they work with google and will put you into the first 3 pages of there search listing does anyone know who this company is as I lost there number?

It is very easy to get a page 1 SERP listing for a keyphrase that isn't very competitive and may not bear much relevance to your business.

Guaranteeing search engine positioning, IMHO, is not entirely ethical but is used as a major selling point my a large number of SEO companies. Why? Because clients want their company to be in position #1 for a keyphrase related to their business. How can SEOs make guarantees without having some form of control over the algorithm? This is particularly obvious since the Google Florida update.

An acquaintance of mine has paid $5000 to a well-known SEO company for 3 months of SEO for a service that offers page 1 listings within google for at least 1 of 20 keywords/keyphrases. As it turned out, 3 months later, they met their contract with a keyphrase that had been optimised by the site owner and not the SEO company.

As has been discussed in many threads of this forum, there is a lot more to a successful web site strategy than just SEO. Paying an SEO for high placement on a keyphrase your vistitors are unlikely to use is false economy. In addition, if you do get high placement for a keyphrase that is pertinent to your business but then having the site not meet the expectations (in terms of content and services) of the visitor is also false economy.

I would guess you're talking about these guys, also con artists They can guarantee to get you top 3 because they buy sponsored links on google but they charge you far more than if you bought the link straight from google.

On a similar topic I was searching google for black hat seo and was horrified to find that a spam satire site which is actually anti-black hat came out top, when oh when will google roll back florida and fix the serps!

I would just like to say I totally disagree with these negative comments about Bowmac. I am only a small company and don't have much money for marketing. I spent a few hundred pounds with Bowmac and have generated tremendous amounts of business from my website. They are very helpful and I would recommend there services to anyone.

Hi Amy, welcome to Cre8asite wavey.gif

Personally, I think I agree with you that generally Bowmac will provide very good service for such a low price. Naturally, I'm a little dubious of their reliance on doorway pages that have a 'click here to enter site' link, making the non-integrated nature stand out, but I'm a perfectionist.

There's also a couple of claims on their site that guarantee I'll poke my tongue out at them at any conferences such as the very deceptive one on their front page: "Bowmac Internet is the only company that provides a service which guarantees to obtain these premier search engine positions for your business."

In contrast to their claim to be so unique in this (a claim hundreds of other companies make, and made first), Google lists 494,000 results for guaranteed top search positions, with 48,000 of those being UK pages wink-2.gif

That's nothing more than, er, creative marketing talk, I suppose, but it is rather dishonest. However, I suppose that saying "Bowmac Internet is just one of thousands of companies that provide a service which guarantees to obtain these premier search engine positions for your business." just wouldn't work for them as well. laugh.gif

Its interesting that amyg2205 does not give the website esecially as he/she is doing so well with Bowmac and is so happy. Are you sure you dont work for them? I have been checking my listing and before i first started with bowmac was doing quite well on my own now i dont have a single listing on the entire site. Does anyone know how this has happened and any one got any ideas how i could rectify this matter?

cufflinksworld, I did a Google search for site:http://www.cufflinksworld.com and got 20 of your web pages listed. That doesn't seem to be a problem, or is there something else? smile.gif

I am having problems finding the keywords that were ranking well in google before bowmac started to promote my site. I was doing quite well, now i dont appear for any of these previously well ranked words on google

online cufflinks
diamond cufflink
novelty cufflinks
watch cufflinks

I just cant comprehend how i had lots of keywords ranked well BEFORE bowmac started with the site and now i dont appear anywhere for these words and cant find a single keyword which will link into my site! I thought the idea of SEO was to make your site rank more highly not make it worse??

cufflinksworld, I had only a limited time to look at the problem. I have no idea how Bowmac may be part of the problem. However looking just at your site, I had some reactions.

Looking at the home page, I did not see the keyword phrases you were mentioning, although perhaps they were there somewhere. The web page has only a Google PageRank 1 with no backlinks so it will not appear very high even for phrases that are prominent. For example, I searched for - high grade and decorative cufflinks. This is a phrase that appears within the page. For this, the web page appeared at #8 in the Google SERP. So I suggest the first step is to make your keyword phrases more visible more often on the web page.

I notice that the parent company, Pieces of Time, seems to have a large number of websites that all could be said to have some relationship with this one. So you can arrange for other links from other websites, where this is natural. Links from other unrelated websites would also be beneficial.

These are the two priority tasks in getting higher Google rankings: more relevant content and more backlinks. Good luck. smile.gif

While I'm looking at the site, I picked up another problem. For an ecommerce site, you are also failing to meet the ecommerce regulations. With no clear shipping charges, lack of clearly identified physical address, no terms and conditions, no privacy policy, no clear returns policy.

I haven't had time to look at your page, but what you said, I think, answers your own question. Remember the aim of the game is to get human visitors who visit your web page persuaded that they would like to learn more and then buy from you. If they're turned off by what they read, then you've failed.

You also can run into possible over-optimization penalties from the search engines with too high a keyword density (ratio of keywords to total text content). The easiest way is to get a friend to read out the text aloud. If they're honest in what they say, you'll know pretty quickly if you've overdone it.

You are joking aren't you?

Repeat after me.....

The most important visitors to my web site are human
- I will make my text readable to humans
- I will read up on the most simple search engine optimisation techniques but remember that humans are more important
- I will remember that I should target one or two keywords per page
- I will remember that titles should be readable and about 70 characters long and include the keyphrase
- I will remember to target keyphrases that my visitors would use to find my site
- etc, etc
