This article is something I'm pleased to have finally completed. I've gotten input from some folks here already (thanks!) and would love to hear more. It's a document that I plan to update and evolve and would enjoy getting the community's opinion about the validity of the claims, the recommendations and the style.

Feel free to point out errors, omissions or comment on any aspect you find interesting or in need of change.

Thanks in advance! It's great to have a group of peers like you watching out for me. Let me know how I can return the favor.

Can your number the pages on your Word document.

3.
Don't want to be picky but if you might want to give a margin to your Google graphic in the Meta Tag Recommendations.

Looks good to me from what I've read so far...Good paper. Besides asking SEO for comments, did you get feedback from people who are new to this field? How easy did they understand?

stinhambo - why? what's wrong with the .htaccess file?

Nadir - I'm having a couple newbies look at it. They've helped me add a lot and help clear up some unclear portions.

Bob - Thanks for pointing that out. I'll get right on it.

I've got a newbie reading it tomorow. He's been having a hard time grasping what I do. I ran through it tonight and think it'll be just the ticket. I'll be sure to let Rand know how it goes.

It looks pretty big at first sight. As it's a bit late already I will look into it tomorrow. I always find something to 'b*****' about so expect some comment from me wink-2.gif

Randfish - Because I could see your directory structure.

I guess it's not a great thing but some people woudl get funny about snooping around and accessing files which you want to keep hidden!

PS. It's a great document!

randfish - Impressive, have printer clicking away and will get back after perusal - didn't find anything to critique in A and B except that they looked very good and much more thorough than anything I've looked at lately. C pretty well matches the process as I see it and the targeting explanation was better than I could have given without resorting to jargon.

Question? Oops - read http://www.seomoz.org/articles/bg0.php well said.

Thanks gang. It's gotten quite a bit of attention:

- made del.icio.us/popular which brought in about 600 uniques
- mentioned at threadwatch; another 85 or so
- mentioned by Loren at SEJournal; 120
- another 30-40 small blogs and sites for 2-300 more

Total today my visitors are up from around 1200 on an average weekday to over 3400!

I'm really happy that folks are reading it. I hope that the advice contained within can help to spread more knowledge about SEO. I honestly think that the more people learn about the subject, the more business we'll all get - it's one of those things.

Thanks for the encouragement! (now I'm just hoping to get dugg)

Well, I guess this is a few months tardy, however, I just came across this article and thought I would throw in a novice viewpoint.

#1- I had a meta tag optimized site in 1995 built for me and, my, how things have changed. At that time I had a 1-10 ranking on SE's.

#2-Now that I am preparing a new site I have found your article enlightening as to WHAT to learn for placing my site, when finished, as optimally as I can on SE's.

I won't have a chance to read your total article until this weekend but certainly have it on my "to do" list as of right now.

Very understandable and an intelligent read.
