> Why hasn't my site been added in DMOZ?

On their front page, DMOZ claims to have over 50,000 editors, but this is misleading. The figure represents the number of editors that they've had since the beginning. Most editors have been and gone, and the number of actual editors is only a fraction of that figure. Also, not all editors are active very often. It means that only a few thousand editors are trying to keep the directory in shape. This is the reason why websites often take a very long time to make it into the directory.

There is no rule-of-thumb guide as to how long it takes for a website to be reviewed and included in the directory. It can take anything from from a few hours to a very very long time. But there is some relief.

DMOZ editors have set up a public forum at http://www.resource-zone.com/ where anyone can enquire about the status of a website's submission. The forum can help a lot because some sites are rejected, but the submitter isn't informed. People at the forum can get and pass on that kind of information. Also they can tell you if your site is still waiting to be reviewed. But they won't usually review and add sites, so you may get information but still have to wait.

We also have some DMOZ editors, so feel free to ask any questions.

Picture a huge encyclopedia that brags on the cover about being produced by fifty thousand contributors. It's still a legitimate brag even if most of them have gone on to other endeavors after making their contributions.

Hi brmehlman,

I agree with you. An incredible endeavor, regardless of whether all of the people who've worked on the directory are still active or not.

Good to have you aboard.

Zeal has 138,361 members, but only about 50 have added over 10 sites this week.

Perhaps that is because people have to become members in order to submit to Zeal?

We don't have an easy way to find out how many ODP editors have added more than 10 sites in the last week. There are currently 9,907 active ODP editors. Some are much more active than others, as is generally the way in volunteer organisations. The 286 editors with higher level permissions (meta, editall and catmv) tend to be very active.

The ODP is adding about 1,000 sites a day.

I've started a series of threads about small problems that could cost you an ODP listing, which can be fixed:

1: ODP license problems

2: Location, location, location

3: Cross-browser compatibility

4: Site stability

Hello test-ok,
Perhaps your site is competing with the DMOZ editors' website under the category you are submitting to.

Unfortunately, they really don't take editors, and most of the ones there are manipulating the results in their favor, i wonder if they can be Bribed? ROFL

If anyone's interested in ODP facts, rather than myths, see http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/forums/inde...showtopic=33163

I used to have good results with listings in DMOZ, when I last checked, my two sites were gone and now I can't even browse the domain dmoz.org. I don't know what has happened, I don't spam I only submit for two websites and that was once a month.

Does anyone else have this problem? Why can't I even visit dmoz.org?

Thanks,
Bob

Sorry, but unless those last two words were a complete accident, you actually ARE a spammer. You are never to resubmit to anything where you are already listed.

The idea is to submit once ever.

This advice is just my 2 cents. How about I send you a bill for 2 cents every month? Get it?

It looks like they banned your IP. Ammon is right, they might have considered you were a spammer.

Once a month is spamming, either you get marked as a spammer, or an editor decides to skip reviewing the site for making his life hard, or you keep pushing yourself to the end of the line if the editor reviews in date order.

I have this image of people standing in the line at a bakery waiting to get served, and some guy in the middle gets impatient, and keeps walking to the end of the queue.
