Hello,

By accident searched Google for the “term” 1, I was surprised by the result.

I’m in the UK and Google in my main search engine. Without selecting the “pages from the UK” option:
When I type the following single numbers into Google the top listed sites are as follows:

Search term 1 gives me: bbc radio 1 as the top site.
Search term 2. gives me bbc radio 2 as the top site.
Search term 3 gives me bbc radio 3 as the top site.

Question: what is the top listed site when you search of the term “1” in your country?
I would be interested to know if it the BBC radio 1 or something different.

That's weird. I tried the google.ca search engine and got Wikipedia (the July 1st entry) first.
In my local Google, an internet newspaper creeped in, announcing the results of a football match (3:1) and a list in a disclaimer (1. The newspaper isn't liable for..).

But guess who was 2nd? Wikipedia, July 1st, of course.

I don’t think it’s weird, I think it’s very sinister.

On Google.de (where I am) I get "Erstes Deutsches Fernsehen" (1st German TV), no "1" in the title smile.gif. Using Google.ch from here, I get mozilla.org as top entry (with "Beta 1" bolded) smile.gif. Whacky biggrin.gif. For 2 and 5 I get www.mamboportal.com

Sometimes you wonder why the results end up the way they are... and even more, you wonder why people try to search for things like that (and how many other people try it, ha ha).

Hi,

Here in the USA from Western NY State, the top 3 results for me were:

1. VH1

2. Mozilla.org

3. World Wide Web Consortium's CSS Level 1 recommendation

Hi,
The reason I think it’s sinister, is because I thought that if we didn’t specify our regional options, we would all get the same results. This is apart from countries where Google colludes with governments to stop people having access to ideas that the government don’t approve of.

I also naively thought that the Internet would help to bring down borders. I am not generally one for conspiracy theories, e.g. I don’t care if the moon landings were faked, and that someone has invented a viable alternative to petrol (gasoline), and it’s been suppressed.

However I do have a theory that the “Internet bringing down borders” would not suit the capitalist system. I could give many examples, but I don’t wish to bore people biggrin.gif
