Came across this this morning and just had to write about it: Google is doing its own videos and it does so on YouTube.

Very interesting, if you ask me smile.gif

With Google Video lacking so far behind in the market, is Google itself now less loyal to Google Video?

Also, is the audience of YouTube that close to what Google wants to target? Especially their latest addition where they show how using Google Apps can increase a company's productivity.

Either way, it's funny to see with these overlapping projects where support comes down in the end smile.gif

I have always liked that RSS feed - sometimes it has some interesting videos in it (sometimes not biggrin.gif). I was hoping to be able to read between the lines a bit, but it just seems to be a collection of videos. Fun stuff, anyway. I like the gmail ones smile.gif

Well, we do know Google spent a pretty penny on YouTube. We also know that Google said that YouTube will be more of their community focused project, whereas Google Video will be more focused on search. So, in my opinion, it makes sense to build a Google video channel at YouTube over Google Video.

True, but without Google Video closing signups for new content and without an easy "link" between the two, it remains an odd double deal.

For "official" Google videos to appear on Google Video would just have made so much... sense smile.gif On the other hand, given that Google Video is a failure, yes, it does make more sense that Google goes to YouTube.

I do sometimes wonder if Google Video was simply a way to throw Microsoft and Yahoo off the idea of Google actually buying the more popular YouTube? Google Video was a very odd thing to launch considering the size of YouTube however. Even Google must have known that they simply couldn't compete and they aren't generally that daft.

I don't know ... I'm kind of used to half-baked Google products, train of thoughts that go nowhere...

Take something simple as the Unified Account: it doesn't work with Google Apps. Suppose you have trev@example.com as your login for apps and everything Google. You happily use Docs & Spreadsheets. Now they recently (finally!) tied that into Google Apps as well. Go to Docs & Spreadsheets... nothing there. No, because that is on the Google side of things, not on Google Apps.

Google Apps has a personalized home page which isn't anything like iGoogle. You can add gadgets but not from the same repository as iGoogle...

You can search your email from the Google toolbar but not if you have a Google Apps account.

Google Reader has stars (like Gmail). It has labels (like Gmail) which are also called tags. On the other hand it has no search. Star a bunch of items. Want to unstar them? You have to do it one by one.

Gmail has no way to filter for email with attachments of a certain size.

And yes, Google Video... which is kept alive/open yet isn't used.

It's all somewhere halfway there. LET'S LAUNCH THIS LOUD AND CLEAR <whisper>... ssst, let's sneak off and do something else now...</whisper>
