There has been quite a deal written on how much social media certainly contributed to the President Elect's success.

I was particularly struck by the data in a post that Pete Quily contacted me about. He entitled it Obama Vs. McCain Search Engine and Social Media Showdown. It's an interesting read.

It's amazing how Obama's people have embraced SM. I felt included rather than excluded in the process.

And it continues with his new site that even asks for job applicants!

Amazing.

Neat post, Barry. A lot of work went into gathering all those figures. Interesting to see.

What has happened here in the country around this election has been nothing short of phenomenal. My parents (in their 60s) say they've never seen anything like it, in terms of how involved we the people felt in this election. I believe America lost confidence in itself and in its leaders between the Kennedy assassinations and the Nixon debacle. Serious apathy set in as a result, but thanks to the way this campaign was run and the unifying atmosphere of the Internet, that apathy has finally lifted.

I know several people who were quite involved in Obama's campaign and website, and what I am eagerly waiting to see is the potential use the new President will make of the tremendous forces he has mobilized across the land. His supporters are just waiting to see what he wants them to do next. Think of what that could mean, on a neighborhood, community, city and state level. All of those people, willing to work, to network, to agitate and campaign for united goals.

It's an amazing time to be an American.
Miriam

I wonder what is going through his mind now. Bet he is up to his neck with "men in black" tuning him up with stuff none of us will ever know and is saying: "Oh spit, no! Oh spit, no!" (replace spit with something else of your choosing)

If he thought the campaign was hard, well the hard part comes now. Bonne chance Monsieur Président.

My error: Bonne chance Monsieur Président élu

I have found this article on the topic from the Eisenbergs interesting, too.

It seems like it is the hottest topic now ("How Barack Handled Social Media").

Thanks for the post Barry.

Yes cr8pc it was a deliberate strategy by Obama, he did bottom up organizing combined with a bit of top down control, basically he helped people organize themselves vs typical command and control politics.

in doing so he got people more involved, the worked more, and donated more and shared more.

thanks SEOigloo. yes. many, many hours. Upside is, I learned how to take excel spreadsheets, paste em into dreamweaver tweak em, past em into wordpress save preview and repeat multiple times:)

He's really going to radically transform the country to be more democratic in the democracy sense of the word. Probably the other version of the word too. And they mocked a "community organizer". That's how he won, he out organized em offline and online. He open sourced his way to victory

Does anyone know who ran McCain's web campaign?

Here's a great gallery comparing and analyzing Obama's and McCains website design online by CBS Interactive Art Director Marc Mendell

There is an interesting NY Times article on How Obama Tapped Into Social Networks’ Power. It clearly is something that took the time such people-activities take.
