Seo - The Use Of Postcodes For More Traffic? Options

Hi,

I have come across a number of websites now that seem to list postcode & place nanes by the hundreds in the hope of clearly trying to get more visitors to a website such as on this website:

The big question is whether ther is any mileage in d*** this as for one the page content is boring to say the least! Do they know something that we don't?

Looks to me like they have slapped up that content in hopes of capturing some long-tail queries.

They may also be trying to show up 'everywhere' in Local/Maps query returns.

In either case theirs is not the best methodology.

I find a page like this doesn't look so beautiful, obviously. I'm not sure I would invest my own time in making it.

But then again, when you ask "is it effective" ... that's something else.

Obviously we could do some searches using the terms on the page. Does the page come out on top? If so is that because of those terms or despite of those terms? Is it the page or links to the page? Is it the links to the page or is it the domain? How would you go about excluding one from the other? What kind of tests could be run on a throwaway domain that would at least indicate the direction in which to go, the level of effectiveness that might be achieved with this strategy?

I love sites like this, pages like that; they make me think.
