Lisa Barone, yes that Lisa, theLisa herself, just gave our very own 'mom' Kim Krause Berg one yahoo.gif woohoo yahoo.gif of a shout out:
QUOTE

What Are You Doing To Grow Your Community?

Give more than you take

If you’re not consistently delivering, people are going to find someone who is. You need to give people a reason to stay engaged and your content is often the best way to do that. Your community wants top notch information. They want tools. They want insight. And they want it now and they want it for free. They want you to comment on their blogs and add to their conversation before they comment and add to yours. Your audience is a pre-schooler.

My favorite example of this is also one of my favorite people in the industry. It’s Kim Krause-Berg. I love Kim’s blog. She gives away an incredible amount of information with no strings attached. She also runs the Cre8asite forums, which happens to be one of the few forums that I pay any attention to. She’s always commenting on other people’s blogs to support them and bring insight to the conversations going on in other circles. And anytime you need a mom or someone to listen to you cry/vent/get excited, Kim’s the first one to offer an ear. The Web can be a harsh place, but Kim has created a community around her that exudes sunlight and warmth and love.
[my bold emphasis]

Thank you, Lisa, for saying nice things about our Cre8asiteforums community. And all of them true, too. smile.gif

While I happen to be simply wub.gif about Kim, I have to say that it is not just her that makes Cre8 a place I love to be. It is all the people that find her extended kitchen table - Cre8 - a great place to hang out, trade hints and advice, share joy and sorrow, learning and sharing about all facets of web development, marketing, ethics, and much much more.

People from all walks of life from all parts of the world coming together in community.
Nice, very nice, to see ourselves refected so well in another site's commentary.

Well done everyone, and very well done particularly to Kim. .. and thanks Lisa for acknowledging what so many people know so well.

I believe what is important is the Culture. One definition of Culture is 'the way we do things around here'. I think that has what has been created over the years by the way so many, many people have interacted with each other.

Now it's self-supporting. Newcomers after a little while realise exactly what the culture is around here and so try to fit in. Thus the culture is self-perpetuating. So congrats to us all. We all make it happen.

Lisa's blog post was a surprise. What made me so happy was to see these forums recognized and noted for the spirit that I'd always hoped would survive the ups and downs of a forums existence. I love to tell anyone who will listen that when I started this thing, I had no plans for it and absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into.

The people who have come and gone as moderators and admins each helped build it. Many of them have gone on to do all kinds of things and we've missed them. We've experimented with new ideas and make changes as we learn what works and what doesn't. I've made mistakes and learned a lot. We take ideas from the Cre8tive Community all the time and that helps us grow and keep offering something members want.

We have a lot of fun too! We have a moderator here in charge of making sure we have enough emoticons for everyone to express themselves with. We appreciate new members who arrive and jump in with expert advice, show patience for learners, and have a sense of humor along the way.

While Lisa stuck my name in there, clearly these forums is the culmination of the efforts of many great and wonderful people.

As long as we're having fun and learning from one another, this is all worth it.

Woot! Well deserved praise indeed. And yes, it's because of everyone here, but it really does begin with Kim. Kim rocks. And that's all there is to that. smile.gif

Kim's awesome and the whole Cre8asite family is awesome - there's no harm in saying it out loud smile.gif

I wholeheartedly agree with Barry - there's a very unique and supportive culture here. In a lot of ways, it flies under the radar because, while many of us are marketers, the founders and key players at Cre8asite aren't prone to rampant self-promotion. They do it because it's what they love to do, and recognition is secondary.
