Any one got a clue as to what the differences are in these commands for Yahoo backlinks?

CODE

linkdomain:www.domain.com

link:http://www.domain.com

the first one appears to give more results. My best guess is the second one may filter out duplicate content but I have to admit I've only checked it with one or two URL's so not sure.

link: finds links to the specific url given

linkdomain: finds links to any page within the domain - and you don't need to specify the www. prefix either.

I didn't know that, Ammon!

This is very intriguing. Here are the results for my site.

Google gives
- 187 backlinks for link:www.mysite.ca
- 229 results for a search for "www.mysite.ca"

Yahoo! gives the following results.
- 2 backlinks for link:www.mysite.ca
- 17,800 backlinks for link:http://www.mysite.ca
- 18,000 backlinks for linkdomain:mysite.ca

I don't think I'm going to understand all this.

Yup.

I wish google had the linkdomain: search function too, but it won't. It goes against the policy they've made so apparent in continually making the link: search in Google less and less meaningful. Google, despite its early boasts, is now terrified of backlink manipulations. They work too well.

That is a most profound remark. I am sure it is true. However before exploring some of the implications of that, Ammon, do you have any dropped remarks from anyone even remotely connected to Google that confirms that.
