Hi,

This may sound like a silly question, but how do I get the vertical line on my keyboard (the one directly under the Esc key)? I want to use it for the title on my web page.

I have tried various ways without success and I can only get the other 2 characters on the key.

The vertical bar (or pipe) is character 124 in asci, 0266 in unicode so in most cases either is fine, but older programs like dos will probably prefer the first one.

To do any character with alt + number, you need to use the numeric keypad, not the regular numbers on the top of the keyboard.

(ie ALT then type the numbers using the keypad, then release alt)

Interestingly the cre8 post box seems not to work with this method (using firefox, not tried in ie)

If you just want to display the char in HTML use

hmm interesting, the
thingy
also converts <brvbar; to the actual symbol, rather than showing it "as is" as a code qoute should. GRrrrr and the forum converts the ampersand lt; to a actual < so its pretty hard to explain...

So summary : Use

Ampersand brvbar;

no spaces, use a real ampersand not the word to get the pipe in a html doc.

Alt + num pad and numbers shown to get it otherwise

(or see if your keyboard mappings are for the wrong country for your keyboard in control panel)
