Google launches its challenge to financial news websites in US.

Tip of the hat to John Battelle

The page is filled with rel=nofollow, my Firefox is highlighting almost every news link :)

It's funny, if you search Google for google finance you'll get "See results for Yahoo finance:" in the middle :) and no official link from Google. Is that BigDaddy's influence? ;)

Love the use of ajax and flash in there, and how they track events that might have an influence on the stock prices. Cooooool!

It's very US centric ... and the projects was "started by a few engineers in Bangalore, India". Guess it'll take some time to localize it, but otherwise very well thought out ... Did you notice how they automatically build Google Groups for each company when you click 'discussion group' link under 'more resources'? Maybe if that's successful, they might just not add Google Ads on Google finance ...

Heheh, it sure isn't quite ready yet.

According to Google Finance, I am working for a certain William Gates now...

Is there some buyout offer we don't know about? :)

So Ammon, since you work there.... what is a "Chief Compliance Officer" ? It sounds like something only MSFT would have :) I bet "compliance" is not in regards to "standards" or anything that boring... (just kidding :))

Cheers

Personally, I like it. Unlike Yahoo, it's clean and very comprehensive, plus it doesn't have any ads.

It got me thinking today, something quite related, do you think Google could come up with a Banking or Financial Services Division?
I've seen an ad about the Financial Division of GE today, and I told to myself: heck, I wouldn't be surprised to see Google Banking, Mortgage, or Finance one day. With all their technology, they could be pretty good in handling these activities, especially online, and they could make their shareholders very happy.
