I want to propose the Lee Index, along the lines of a stock market index. The faster and more meaty Lee posts news to us, the hotter the search/seo/web design market is at that moment. To calculate, divide the number of news stories (in today's case, 13) by the number of days since the last update (7 in our case). So today's index is just under 2.0 :)

The other proposal is the Lee:Personal Ratio: how many of the stories Lee posted did you already know about? I knew about 7 of today's stories, so my Ratio is just over 0.5. What's yours?

Come on, it's a great way to procrastinate :)

Yahoo!'s new alpha is quite cool. It also seems to be a different algo, which is not surprising for a federated search solution.

Whatever becomes of it, it's good to see some hot-paced innovation out of Yahoo!. Now if only MSN would do the same. And Google too to some extent (they're producing new things but they need to design/implement them better - I had my rant about their patents search). The search engines have been a bit slow in the past few months.
