Does Google Page Rank Matter? Well lets think about this for a minute, page rank tells the google spider your a important site, right? "NO" not really, lots of sites with low page ranks are number 1 through the net. Page rank is simply determined by how many relevant and inbound links are pointing to your site. If its not a relevant link its a trash link which can hurt you!

Now that's not to say looking at your google toolbar that displays your page rank is not helpful! In fact it is! If you have a good page rank that means your linking efforts are working correctly.

But going strictly by the google toolbar page rank which is not accurate 100% of the time because it fluctuates is not the best way to discover your page rank. The best way to get your accurate page rank is to visit www.pagerank.net .

Now the best way to get a high page rank is to get quality links from other sites that have lots of relevant links to it.

So all in all, page rank by the google toolbar doesn't say a lot for your site, but quality links that are relevant do!

Just something I whipped up.

Did you post it hoping your sig links would get page rank? Or did you post it hoping to do something else?

Hi theseokit,

Welcome to the forum!

Just something I whipped up.

Uhuh, that's the impression I got while reading it, yes. You mix up a nice batch of half-truths and near-truths :)

What I find amusing is your almost self-defeating ecommerce attempt in which you sell both the Page Ranked Link Kit and the Dont Be Fooled! Kit.

How in the world can you combine a kit that "offers you over 25 sites where you can put your link which gurantees top traffic and links to your site" (for USD 7.50!!) and "offer you our dont be fooled kit at and affordable cost that explains everything to you! Dont Be Fooled Any More!"?

Include in the kit:

1. Submission to over 300 Search Engines!
2. The Dont Be Fooled Manual
3. Access To Our Premium Member Support: Ask any questions for free for life!
4. 25 Top Page Ranked Sites You Can Be Listed On For Free!
ectly related.

'nuff said, I think...

Hi theseokit, and welcome to the forums.

I know that what you've written is off the cuff, but I think it may potentially mislead people.

Does Google Page Rank Matter? Well lets think about this for a minute, page rank tells the google spider your a important site, right? "NO" not really, lots of sites with low page ranks are number 1 through the net.

You sort of mixed up a couple things there - indexing and serving.

Pagerank may indeed tell Google whether or not to spider a URL, and index a page. It may be one of those importance metrics that makes a difference at crawling time.

As for serving pages, pagerank is a query independent factor. It's not tied to a specific topic or query, so a page with a lower pagerank that may be deemed more relevant for a query can rank higher than a page with a higher pagerank that is less relevant.

Page rank is simply determined by how many relevant and inbound links are pointing to your site.

No. Relevance of the link is not part of pagerank. Maybe a topic sensitive pagerank yes, but that is probably a different animal than what you mean. Pagerank is query independent. And it's not just the "number" of links that matters.

If its not a relevant link its a trash link which can hurt you!

Pagerank is a query independent signal. It really is.

Now that's not to say looking at your google toolbar that displays your page rank is not helpful! In fact it is! If you have a good page rank that means your linking efforts are working correctly.

The pagerank in the toolbar is for entertainment purposes only, and is not an accurate reflection of the pagerank of a page, since it is only updated less than a handful of times per year.

I guess there's a confusion about the effect of PageRank when it comes together with other parts of the algorithm. A high PR page with relevant links will get more traffic than that without relevant links. But relevancy is just another part of the algorithm, not of PR (as Bill says).

But in the end, all is left is traffic, so aiming for (and, perhaps, even talking about) PR is pretty naive nowadays.

I wonder if this forum is listed in the "kit" ....

Shannon L. ... or shandaman / jedigammer@gmail.com / thrillride3d@gmail.com (or was it Greg?), are you going to come back to discuss the problems with pagerank? Or are you just building links for igoseo.com, 3dgamics.com, 3drocker.com, blogoom.com, cubecartgeek.com, geekssite.com, sweet-blue.com, totaldmag.com, tweenmag.com, gt69.net, nwiads.com, howdydad.net, ranksrus.com, etc...? Why are you putting the home-schooling and Jeff's sites at risk with all this junk? (boy I feel like Matt Cutts now ;) :D)

John

PS in general people do not put their own testimonials on their sites :D

I gather we can host a gallery of threads, started by spammers and developed into quality ones, eh?

On the other hand, finding one amongst others should be a cute surprise for the people.

Neat thought, Yuri. We plant a few specks of gold dust among all that useless sediment. ;)

I know we sometimes like to have fun with posts by spammers and/or the uninformed, but in our defense, it's posts like this one that give forums in general a bad reputation. I've grown weary of hearing that "all forums spread bad information".

These forums are known for "no dumb questions", and also for trying to present educated, credible information.

I think the Cre8tive Community here is justified in trying to turn a potentially dangerous post into one that teaches the correct method. That said, we mean no ill will to the member. At these forums anyway, we do care about everyone :kicking:

(If I went too far, someone please tell me)

I don't really like posting information like that, but when you search around and notice that they hit forums here and there with similar stuff, spread half-truths in a way that people could misinterpret and then call themselves a SEO .... in what looks like a hit-and-run posting ... it just gets on my nerves.

If whoever posted it were to come back and discuss the posting, I will gladly edit or remove my previous post -- but I don't think that is going to happen, the intentions are all too clear.

I honestly don't want to know how you moderators here handle the spam-load :D. But I'm glad you do such a good job (and leave a few tidbits for us users to fight over as well :D).

And then you see things like ... I have recently put some anchor text links on [a site] he didnt want them to be seen so I used Css to hide the underline and colors. Does that also hide them from the Se's? <_<

John

.... or was it Hmm, so your saying that a regular <title> </title> is more effective then the meta title? ? Those sneaky, tricky SEOs :D

Hello all, I truley did not think I was doing anything wrong. The products I sell do work as I get sites listed for specific terms in the top 10 all the time. I am sorry for any wrong info I may have put here. But this info does work for me. Everyone has there own approach I guess.
