Log gazing again, I came across a hit with this data:

Hit: /feed

* At: 17 July 2007 09:00:05 PM GMT
* Routed to: /index.php
* Referred from: (No referer.)
* Remote: www3.mbl.sp1.yahoo.com (69.147.90.65)
* Request: HTTP/1.0 GET
* Accepting:
o HTTP:
o Charset:
o Enconding:
o Languages:
* UA:
* Cookies:

If you go to the remote host specified, you get MyBlogLog, which explains the mbl bit in the host name. The question is: why doesn't the MBL feed retrieval bot identify itself?

Why is this important? Blocking empty UA strings blocks out quite a few spam bots.

Just a heads up. I'm going now to find a way to submit a bug report...

Pierre

Edit
Wow that was a quick response! They just emailed me back saying they'll let their engineers know about this.

Nice to be able to submit a bug report and actually get a reaction! Benefit of still being practically a start-up --- even if they have been acquired!

Yeah, a 9-minute response time is kinda surprising. Even for a startup.

I hope their engineers are as good as customer service are.
