Found Via Reddit, Google have just announced an easier way to embed their maps into web pages.

Seems you can goto Google Maps and get the map area you want, and copy and paste some HTML they give you.

it can be a location, a business, driving directions, or a My Map they have created

Quite nice that you can use driving directions or a MyMap as well, I was trying to do something like it recently, but didn't really want to learn the ins and outs of the API.

I've not tried it yet, so I don't know how it does the embedding, I'm half expecting an iFrame, which isn't ideal, but as a quick, easy solution, I guess it'd do.

Anyone tried it yet?
We use Google Maps a fair bit for our clients web sites, showing the business location, so I'll probably check it out next time we need it.

Hmmm Well I can't see this new 'easy embed' stuff anywhere? The directions stuff has been added to the API and looks pretty simple actually, I'll have a play with that over the weekend...

Just had a quick look, you create your map, and click the 'Link to this page' link, top right of the map, and it does indeed give you iFrame code to plonk it onto another web site.

Seems to work reasonably well http://www.sportinwe....co.uk/node/522 for an example.

DOH! Was looking too much into it, I was actually looking on the API docs for the easy embed stuff :embarrassed:

Yeah, it's nice, I expect 'professionals' will find it better to do it via the API still, but yeah, allowing people to quickly and easily embed simple maps like that is a nice idea.
That example I gave above is what I was trying a few weeks ago, really wanted to give a rough directions type map for a sports club, and getting heavily into the API seemed a bit overkill....

This is just right, and is also something that other, less webby, content adders can use as well.
