I have heard all the rumors in regards to SEO. Now, I want the truth

#1, Does keyword density really matter? If yes, how much is too many or to small in regards to on page content?

#2, Long title and description tags = Spam?

#3, Title tags should NOT be written as follow: Gift Baskets: Wine, Fruit, Christmas

Rather a title tag should be written like that of a sentence?
Example: Buy Your Favorite Baskets At............(Website name).

#4, Each web page should NOT have the same keyword(s) as your other pages?
Example: Home page includes the keywords Gift Basket, Wine and Fruit.
Your wine page should NOT include the same keywords as your home page?

#5, Each page on your website is broken into categories. Two of the pages has the sub categories named, "summer wine baskets." This would be looked at as spam?

1. Simple answer. Don't worry about keyword density. Just write your content for your users, not for search engines.
2. Not necessarily. Again just write them to be useful.
3. Generally, Correct. In some cases, if you're a big name brand you might want to put your site name first. (e.g. Amazon.com)

5. Probably not. Again, design your information architecture that makes the most sense to your users and to your business. Don't change it for search engines. If it's easy for the users to understand, trust me, it won't be spam.

As long as everything is natural and written for humans then it doesn't really matter too much how you do things.

As soon as you try to engineer things to make your site SE friendly it sticks out like a sore thumb. Just write normally and let the SE do its job.

NO, if you have your main term in the title tag, H1 and a couple times on the page that is all you need.


#2, Long title and description tags = Spam?
NO, I use long ones to go for keyword reach

I use that style a lot... and this....

My homepage has a range of keywords. Other pages have just a couple keywords.

I don't think that I would have two pages with identical titles. But two pages with similar titles can earn you #1 and #2 in some SERPs.
