Credit Crunch

Not really. I'd call it trimming the fat, bursting the bloat, or reality check.

Take your pick.

To be honest, I've only heard of two of those and haven't used any. Google Video seems like a pretty natural thing to let die, given the YouTube acquisition. Google has a lot of products and market experiments, so it seems pretty natural for them to cut things off from time to time.

I vote for "reality check". Not like they are short of money or anything. :)

In good times you can manage poorly and still achieve reasonable results. In difficult economic times you are forced to manage better in order to survive.

I believe it is better at all times to be trying to improve performance. That means focusing on your strategic businesses and not getting too diverted. You can certainly let people have 10 percent of their time on fun projects if you wish. However to take one of those ideas and turn it into a business then you must apply competent management practices.

Unfortunately I think Google had it too easy and it is only now that they are having to think about performance management.

I hope they don't get rid of Google Notebook, because I use it. It beats syncing files between computers through my sometimes buggy smart phone.

Hi Michael
How do you use Google Notebook on your smart phone? I've been looking for something simple to do that too.

I go to www.google.com, select igoogle, sign in to my Google account, select 'more Google products' near the bottom, then select 'notebook'. then pick the notebook I want.

Here is the tricky part my phone wants me to add a note to my notebook but above the form text box is a bunch of hyper linked hyphens that lead to your notebook online.
