Sometimes, usually after doing a mind-numbingly boring task manually, it occurs to me that someone may have built tools that could have made the process much more fun and creatively productive. For instance, after manually building a list of about 100 colors, it dawned on me to look for a tool that extracts all the hexadecimal colors from a stylesheet and builds a nice set of swatches. I found one at http://www.hextractor.com/, but it just makes a long list - in my case today I got a list of about 100 colors, including many scattered shades of gray. I'd like to see an arrangement according to hue, in a grid I can see without scrolling. While I'm at it, it'd come in handy if I could fine tune by adding and subtracting colors, without having to open another tool.

There are tools that extract a suggested color palette from an image. I like http://www.colorhunter.com/, but it'd be nice to take it a step farther, and have more colors in the palette. I'd like a tool that would kick out suggestions from an image, then let me manually sample the photo and add to the palette. Is there something like that?

I'm not sure if this will do everything you want but even if not it's a handy colour tool: http://www.colorzilla.com It's an extension for firefox that lets you 'pick' any colour on screen and store it in a pallet or copy the hex code. I mostly use it for picking colours but you can view the pallets you create too.

I haven't seen the exact one to mess with an image, but I like a color schemer that lets me make the specified colors darker or lighter

I've been using ColorCop for years (free). The eyedropper tells you which color it is looking at ... and then bottom left it will make a matrix of colors that go with it or are related to it:

Thanks for the reminder about Color Cop! I used to use it, but started using a FireFox plugin instead. I'd forgotten how Color Cop brings up a nifty little selection of related colors.
