I got my last on from Dell, nothing special works great with everything I have, i.e. photoshop and the web.

Mine in an Inspiron 530, cost about 350 I think. Must be almost 2 years old by now. These look pretty similar, i.e, the basic one:

I ordered extra RAM so have 4Gb, and have 2 500Gb drives too, but everything else is standard Dell.

I know this is so not what you want to hear, but I really love my MacBook Pro.

In our house we have 2 PC's and this MacBook. The learning curve was not steep to start using a Mac and there are so many cool things you can do with it.

Our new dell laptop that we got for work has Windows 7 and from what I have seen so far Windows 7 seems to be trying to copy everything that a Mac already does.

I have become one of those people who thinks everyone needs a Mac!

All of my coworkers, mainly designers, will scream Mac.  You must get a Mac!

Mac copied Amiga. Amiga copied Atari. I'm NOT buying an Atari!

Jged, like you, I aim to buy a new pc, but I also wanna play modern games on it.
I'm checking tomshardware.com weekly for new recommendations, charts and guidelines.

Playing games! Custom build then. Lots of cpu and ram, super graphics, fast HDD, job done. Oh, big fan. And a really stylish box with neon lights.

yeah, I always thought they were silly.

My ideal box is now one with multiple decoy buttons. Or better, no buttons at all.

I am not sure about the very newest models but all my HP machines have a system reset where I can backup critical data and wipe the machine clean.
I really like that feature.
