I find it to render slowly. So, for example, if your site heading is using a google font, but the rest of the site is using a normal webfont, all the other text, and much of the graphics will appear first, and the heading using the google font will pop in later. This may not occur on really fast connections, but that's been my experience. Instead, I've preferred to use @font-face, using one of the many available kits at fontsquirrel.com. Since you download the font, and serve it from your own server, the lag time isn't there. Or if it is, it's much less noticeable if at all.

Thanks this is exactly what i was trying to ask but think i made a clumsy attempt... are there any known troubles with say screen readers or anything like that should i use it with caution?

I'm not aware of any issues beyond loading speed.

We have had the same experience.
I am guessing it is a browser issue rather than speed. I never experience the problem with Chrome, but it nearly always happens with FireFox. I don't use IEx - so I don't know what happens there.

I only use Chrome, generally, so it definitely happens in Chrome for me.
