This is just out and already Twitter is buzzin' about it!

Try out:

Social Activity Tool

Why?

Social media monitoring is basically listening to the discussions in the social media world as it relates to your company, brand, competitors, and industry. Selecting certain keywords will help in finding these conversations and then these conversations can be used as a way to protect and grow your brand. Social media monitoring will help in staying ahead of market trends. Using social media tools will help in finding those who are searching for products and services you provide. You will be able to reach them as soon as questions are being asked. A social media monitoring tool will also allow you to join in on the conversations surrounding your specific industry giving you a chance at getting recognized.

Hmmm...kinda cool, but shouldn't it be named Facebook Activity Monitoring Tool? Since, that seems to be the only social network it monitors.

I suspect that it will be happily received but I really do NOT see the point.
1. if one is using social media and not already tracking, analysing, and acting on various metrics one is a silly idjit.
2. this tool appears severely restricted, not only to FaceBook (as Donna noted) but to one FB metric.
3. it really seems that it's appeal will be similar to that of a gossip site: who is doing what that is 'popular'.
Note: should we expect an avalanche of copycat popular topics? Oh joy.
4. most important, especially with such a limited use tool: one should be wary of letting the tool(s) dictate the metrics. Your business goals and your strategies to achieve those goals should define the metrics and thus the tools.

Julie Joyce remarked on Twitter she loved because it wasn't just a Twitter tool. I'm not a social marketing analyst and don't know what they like. But, I'm sure they appreciate all the feedback and user testing done here :)

yeah, gotta agree with Donna in that it only focuses on FB. I think it should be referenced accordingly. I tested against a few urls.

In terms of "social media" we did something that had an enormous strikeout. One of our smb's got this startling and extraordinarily interesting testimonial/perspective from a customer. It was an interesting read and an interesting perspective...along with the testimonial.

I tested it by sending it to someone in a relevant area. I believe when I tested it it had the writer's name attached to it. The "expert" thought it was tremendous and interesting and worthwhile for the subject area. The expert even broached the topic with lead commentators in that topical area once we published it.

Ultimately the writer wanted complete anonymity. UGGGGGGGGGHHHH.

It was so interesting though, we published it...and hand contacted about 150 different sources of a wide variety.

HUGE STRIKEOUT. The anonymity, at the least kept it from getting a link, a reference NADA. NOTHING.

We did get sales calls from media sources. Ha ha.

but the tool above references a relatively lot of likes off our fb page.

In terms of Social media. big nothing. in terms of FB likes...yeah..it sort of worked. I'd rename it from that perspective.

just my $0.02 :D
