I have a few questions about performing SEO on WordPress sites.
  • Is it OK to handle the canonical issue in the Dashboard--Settings--General settings area
  • How to write clean URLs when we have to handle posts in categories as well. In this case, the URL would be as follows. www.mydomainname.com/category/mypost Can I get rid of the word "category"?

Do you have Yoast's SEO plugin? I know that's highly recommended for Wordpress users, otherwise I have no idea as I haven't used Wordpress...yet!

Alex is right. Just grab the Yoast SEO plugin. You can set the option to remove the category in the url.

And yes, if you mean setting www to non-www or vice-versa, the general settings can take care of that. Whichever url you prefer (www.yourdomain.com or just domain.com) is what you'll put in the URL settings on that page, and WP will handle the redirect of the other.

Hi, I use All in One SEO Pack there are a few settings that need to be altered but that gets rid of the /category/ etc and creates really good Canonical URLs

Let me know if you need any more settings info...

I use Yoast's SEO plugin too. Does the trick. Sure I wrote something or other on Wordpress plugins once. Also been discussed here in the past. Not got my glasses on, so not going to risk adding links right now!
