Having an issue with a client. So I'm hoping to get some feedback / advice from anyone who has had a similar issue.
Here's the story:
A client signed up to have their website re-developed and pretty much signed up for the works
SEO, AdWords, Email marketing, etc.
Once a good chunk of the site was done and some of the set ups, we went into meet with the client to provide an update.
There was a new person there (employee?) who seemed to be calling the shots. We never met this person before..
Anyway, they hated everything that was done, and basically the whole meeting went sideways.
In days after the meeting they wanted to cancel everything and demanded a refund.
Our contract stipulates that either party can cancel the agreement in writing with 30 days notice which I told them.
I never heard back from them and totally forgot about it.
That is until now, 8 months later.
Owner calls me and wants a refund.
I re-iterated that the first step in all of this, is for them to send me a signed, and dated written cancellation letter.
And they flat-out refused to do that. They also threatened to take us to small claims court.
I don't have a problem going in front of a judge, as I can confidently state what work was done. - but worry about any community fall-out.
I would be willing to offer a 50% refund, (they paid $3,500 upfront) since not the full project was completed, obviously, but i am pretty sure they want 100% back.
I need to get back to them before the weekend.
Never gone through anything like this before, and looking for guidance / advice.
