<title>iamlost: Jumping Ads On Msn Rant (Usability and Accessibility)</title>
				<category>Usability and Accessibility</category>
<description>Interesting find &lt;b&gt;EGOL&lt;/b&gt;. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I run FF with NoScript on (it says there are 62 scripts running on that page) and it kept switching between:&lt;br /&gt;1. a blank spot on the page between 2 &lt;hr&gt; lines labeled advertisement, &lt;br /&gt;2. an LL Bean image link between the lines and label&lt;br /&gt;3. the NoScript logo and 4 text links.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In each instance above I right clicked and checked Frame Source and Info revealing a ton of different code.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Given that it is apparently an LL Bean paid ad spot finding the following in amongst all the various code offerings was especially interesting (my line breaks)(note the last two lines):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--c1--&gt;&lt;div class='codetop'&gt;CODE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='codemain'&gt;&lt;!--ec1--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;http&amp;#58;//ad.doubleclick.net/click%3Bh=v8/36bb/3/0/%2a/w%&lt;br /&gt;3B194377498%3B7-0%3B0%3B24685969%3B4307-300/250%&lt;br /&gt;3B26347689/26365543/1%3B%3B%7Esscs%3D%3f&lt;br /&gt;https&amp;#58;//www.lowermybills.com/servlet/LMBServlet&lt;br /&gt;?the_action=NavigateHomeLoansAdRedirect&amp;amp;sourceid=24685969-194377498-26365543&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--c2--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--ec2--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<title>EGOL: Jumping Ads On Msn Rant (Usability and Accessibility)</title>
				<category>Usability and Accessibility</category>
<description>MSN is making a huge mistake with their &amp;quot;jumping ads&amp;quot;. These ads reload periodically and if you are trying to read an article in firefox the browser window jumps around when the ad reloads. Extremely annoying. I&amp;#39;ve bailed on a few articles today. I hope that they are making a lot of money because people like me are going straight to the competitor news site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=54662542%2Fdi%2Fmoc.nsm.cbnsm.www%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24526645' target='_blank'&gt;http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24526645&lt;/a&gt;</description>

<title>EGOL: Guilty And Dumped By Bluehost - No More Cre8pc Blog (Online Marketing and Promotion)</title>
				<category>Online Marketing and Promotion</category>
<description>My bet.... BlueHost&amp;#39;s tech people are incompetent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;About a year ago I was investigating wordpress and got a domain there because they were offering pre-configured wordpress blogs. I wanted to experiment with it. A few months ago (after my contract expired and I was long gone from their system) I received an email message that they were not going to offer wordpress any longer and that I should make alterative arrangements if I needed that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, they were probably getting hacked right and left and didn&amp;#39;t know how to keep the spammers out. I bet that they were being mined for links big time with a ton of free WP installs and nobody patching them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anybody left there better bail out now. If the Boss&amp;#39;s blog gets hacked and stays hacked that is a really bad sign and a sorry place of biz.</description>

<title>joedolson: Guilty And Dumped By Bluehost - No More Cre8pc Blog (Online Marketing and Promotion)</title>
				<category>Online Marketing and Promotion</category>
<description>One likely culprit for the email problem is that a spam bot is using @cre8pc.com addresses as the spoofed return address for their spamming. These @cre8pc.com addresses don&amp;#39;t require any interaction whatsoever with your server, but they WILL generate massive quantities of rejection notices from spam filters --- this could easily result in tagging you as a spammer. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is, however, COMPLETELY out of your control --- there&amp;#39;s nothing at all you can do about it, and it&amp;#39;s not something that they should hold against you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I find so particularly disturbing about this is the complete lack of information they&amp;#39;ve provided you with, and the lack of communication. No information about your supposed spamming, no communication directly with you. It makes it patently obvious that they just don&amp;#39;t care about maintaining customers --- which is probably true.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The problems I&amp;#39;ve had with Bluehost in the past are different from these, but are easily sufficient that I have no intention of ever using them for one of my own projects or any client project in which I have any _say_ concerning the hosting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--quoteo--&gt;&lt;div class='quotetop'&gt;QUOTE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='quotemain'&gt;&lt;!--quotec--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Who is your host Joe? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--QuoteEnd--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--QuoteEEnd--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=moc.tfosdci.www%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://www.icdsoft.com' target='_blank'&gt;http://www.icdsoft.com&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<description>Wow, that&amp;#39;s a very strange situation. Luckily, moving a blog to a new host isn&amp;#39;t too terribly hard, so the blog should be back up and running shortly. Still, it would be nice to really understand what is going on so that it can be prevented in the future. strange...</description>

<description>I&amp;#39;m only passing through quickly so cannot comment at length. The irony of this is that Matt Heaton&amp;#39;s blog&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=%2Fmoc.notaehttam%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://mattheaton.com/' target='_blank'&gt;http://mattheaton.com/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;was hacked by goro (who also hacked two of my blogs at the end of January) and remained hacked for months. It was a factory for pharmaceutical links. Matt Heaton is the CEO of Bluehost. It was only cleaned up recently.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had in mind to switch to Bluehost in the next little while. This is a dreadful situation. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;further thought&gt;Why did you receive so many emails. I use Akismet so most of the spam is siloed by that in the database. That&amp;#39;s thousands per day. I only receive a small trickle of emails about questionable ones and most of the emails I get relate to good comments.</description>

<description>What kills me is that I don&amp;#39;t use them to send email. All of my inbound and outbound email is routed through Netaddress, to help me control the huge volume of spam I get for having an old domain. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also use Gmail more than my own domain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;ve changed my pw to my server several times, and even that hasn&amp;#39;t helped.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So. It&amp;#39;s a hack situation and if so, they don&amp;#39;t bother to help customers??? This floors me and its why I&amp;#39;m going public here. They wouldn&amp;#39;t talk to me on the phone and sent me two disable notices, as if I&amp;#39;m a criminal.</description>

<description>&lt;!--quoteo--&gt;&lt;div class='quotetop'&gt;QUOTE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='quotemain'&gt;&lt;!--quotec--&gt;Further, you do realise that means IE6 etc. users won&amp;#39;t get any benefit from the menu?&lt;!--QuoteEnd--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--QuoteEEnd--&gt; &lt;br /&gt;No, I did not know this. I have used CSS for 2 years but in very limited ways. Since search engines do not read javascript, I was hoping to create a flyout navigation menu without the use of javascript -- one that would work in all browsers, including IE6. Darn. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank you for the link, autocrat, but it sounds like will have to add javascript to the navigation menu. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I checked the link you refered me to and found information about Javascript.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thanks, &lt;br /&gt;Mary</description>

<description>Well, not wanting to be the bearer of bad tidings...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But the use of visibility/hidden values can cause some problems with assistive/alternative technologies - which may mean that some user types cannot make full use of that navigation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Further, you do realise that means IE6 etc. users won&amp;#39;t get any benefit from the menu?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<description>Thank you Yannis... I admit I had to run out &amp;amp; google &amp;quot;WAMP.&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;m not sure if a CMS can be a solution for us, although I have very little knowledge of them, other than once installing Wordpress. The thing is, it seems that any web-based solution would be a problem in that web apps can only &amp;quot;work with&amp;quot; (display) jpeg, gif or png images. Unless i&amp;#39;m completely wrong. (It has happened. )&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;IF I&amp;#39;m right about that, then in order for a web-based solution to work, we would have to create and maintain web-compatible images of each piece of media referred to, which would be a pain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Am I making sense at all?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have Sharepoint available, and it seems we could easily use that -- IF we were to manually create thumbnails of everything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;m looking for a magic solution. Sigh. I would so love to have a compilation of all our digital images, including our stock art collection, upon which we could search by keyword, by project, or customer, etc. I think that Lightroom would come close to ideal -- IF its data catalog could be stored on a shared network drive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where&amp;#39;s the LOVE? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<description>My first attempt at a pure CSS flyout menu&amp;#33; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Armed with lots of help from CSS Web Sites, I have attempted to create a pure CSS flyout menu. The problem is that it is only working in IE7, and not in Firefox or Opera. I am thrilled that this is working at all&amp;#33; Not being a pro at CSS, I have no idea what is needed for this to work in all browsers. (I am not sure I really understand how this is working in IE7).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The test site is at &lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=mth.sunem%2Fgga%2Fmoc.evodsgniw.www%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://www.wingsdove.com/agg/menus.htm' target='_blank'&gt;http://www.wingsdove.com/agg/menus.htm&lt;/a&gt;. <title>Lyle: Is There A Way To Keep Fixed Elements From Falling Off The Screen? (Usability and Accessibility)</title>
				<category>Usability and Accessibility</category>
<description>To my knowledge, no there&amp;#39;s no way of doing this for a position:fixed element without resorting to Javascript.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You could (in theory at least) sniff the browser window size using j/script, and then use the DOM model to change the styling (fixed position location in particular) once the page has loaded.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The alternative would be to use a float:right for the element, then use margin-left: 900px (or whatever) to move the div to the correct place. Then if the browser window is too small, it *should* just drop to the bottom of the page anyway - although I&amp;#39;m not sure if you would then have to still re-write the margin-left value using j/script.</description>

				<category>Usability and Accessibility</category>
<description>I have an element on my page which we&amp;#39;d like to keep fixed, so that it never falls off the screen. Unfortunately, on small resolutions like 800x600, this element isn&amp;#39;t completely visible, and you can&amp;#39;t scroll to get to it. I&amp;#39;d like to build my site for 1024x768 while still keeping my site accessible to people with smaller resolutions. Is there any way that a fixed element can be aware of where the edges of the screen are, and to make sure that the element doesn&amp;#39;t go over those edges? Thank you.</description>

<description>I agree with you, Pierre, that his basic webpage does not need to be more elaborate. Indeed, he perhaps wants to spread the message that KISS (Keep It Simple, Sweetheart ) is his watchword.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the other hand, for his online Hathaway shop, that&amp;#39;s another matter. One concept, I often use in situations like this is who are you losing by any decision you take. Perhaps most visitors overlook the shortcomings and will purchase anyway, given the Hathaway reputation. However there may be a small percentage &amp;#39;on the edge&amp;#39; of purchasing who just drop out (click away). I think it&amp;#39;s always wise to look at that percentage, who are on the edge. If you can keep them with you by small changes then that is very effective use of your effort. After all the hardest task is to get them to come to the website</description>

<title>tracischarf: Landing Pages (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>Want to chime in here on dedicated landing pages, and whether they are worth pursuing:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can actually think of a number of examples where you&amp;#39;d definitely want to create specific landing pages, rather than just sending traffic to the most relevant page on your site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For example, if I&amp;#39;m advertising a weight loss coaching service on Facebook, I might want my ad to link to a landing page that is Facebook-specific. Maybe the landing pages has this cute intro about how you can keep your &amp;quot;thin&amp;quot; photo up on Facebook for years, etc. Maybe even make that the graphic on the landing page -- &amp;quot;you now: 165 lbs&amp;quot; : &amp;quot;your facebook photo: 145 lbs&amp;quot;. You know, have a light touch and make people laugh with a Facebook-specific example, and get them go to (and fill in) a 3-field form for their free 30-min consultation. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You could actually do a similar thing with advertisements on match.com. (Quick note: I&amp;#39;m not even sure if you *can* advertise on match, but you probably get my point.) A specific landing page for each would likely connect better with people and generate higher response than just pointing them to a web page within your site that doesn&amp;#39;t pick up on the conversation or the context at all. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, what I&amp;#39;m saying is that there are instances where you would be smart to do dedicated landing pages. Not indexed. Not orphaned either probably (you *would* want them to link to your lead generation form, in the example I gave above). And you could indeed measure everything about the page in your analytics -- how many people clicked through to the submit form, how many people actually completed that form, etc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just my thoughts on the matter. But I *did* want to come to the defense of the people who think landing pages have their place&amp;#33;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<description>I go off topic too. They wanted to hear more from me and my life and responded with positive feedback to my off topic posts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think sometimes it depends on the writing and openness of the blog owner to share. I&amp;#39;ve seen other blogs try to get personal and they don&amp;#39;t pull it off. It&amp;#39;s not them. It&amp;#39;s their writing. <description>Hi all...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am a web designer working in a marketing dept of 14 people. We use a shared drive to store all of our digital media: photographs, logos, print projects, web projects, etc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We&amp;#39;re at the point where we could really use a system for organizing our digital media, to include: jpegs, tifs, eps, ai (Illustrator), InDesign files, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We need to keep track of which photos are used by which customers. Some photos can be used by any; some are exclusive to the customer. Which photos are used with which project, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;ve been investigating many options, including using Lightroom, Bridge, Extensis Portfolio, MS Expression Media, etc. I&amp;#39;ve looked at Zenfolio and Smugmug, but of course they mainly work with jpegs gifs (and video formats: Smugmug).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;m considering a FilemakerPro solution, but that would 1) require me developing it and 2) me maintaining it. Or we could possibly purchase a ready-made FMPro solution. (We already own FMPro)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Requirements&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;We need to work across the shared drives. (so [b]Lightroom is out)[/b&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;The system needs to support various file formats, such as .ai (Illustrator) and .eps and .psd.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Needs to be fairly easy for our dept to maintain (no IT required&amp;#33;), since we&amp;#39;re all busy (and IT will be ticked off anyway that we&amp;#39;re doing this ourselves&amp;#33;)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Hmm, there are many others, but this gives you an idea.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;If you have any suggestions, I&amp;#39;ll all ears&amp;#33;&amp;#33; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thanks much.</description>

<title>A.N.Onym: Spam Index And Its Influence In Seo (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>Heh, I thought it&amp;#39;s a neat discussion going on here by looking at the stats.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, spam index is the whole indexed spam pages in SE indices. Since the PR value depends on the total amount of pages on the Internet, the more pages you have, the less PR each page has (because there are only 10 digits for all the pages).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, when it comes to traffic, it means nothing, because it is not the absolute PR value that matters, but the relative one. You need to have more links to get more PR to be higher in the SERPs, than your online neighbour, that&amp;#39;s all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Basically, it means just keep on working on creating useful content and promoting it to get more links and stand out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;P.S. At least, that&amp;#39;s what I have gathered from previous discussions on the topic. I am sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in to correct me. If it is related to email - and top pages in SERPs say so, then I don&amp;#39;t see how it is related to SEO. It is hard for spam to outrank clean sites in Google.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Perhaps the context where the phrase &amp;quot;spam index&amp;quot; was used and why it should or should not help SEO might help the matter.</description>

<title>A.N.Onym: Great Linkbait Idea (Social Media And Tagging)</title>
				<category>Social Media And Tagging</category>
<description>When you talk about a one-pager and distraction, you are thinking about a working linkbait. The one you just launched. Keeping it on a one-page site is fine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am talking about moving and redirecting the bait to a site section (of another site) instead of bluntly redirecting it to commercial content. Since you move the thing anyway just to gain link weight, what does distraction has to do with it? You&amp;#39;ll still be gaining occasional links to your piece this way and won&amp;#39;t alienate the visitors via links (and possibly social site users).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another option is to continue building the viral content on the baited piece. Do you think starting a new site for every piece is more worthy?</description>

<title>A.N.Onym: Great Linkbait Idea (Social Media And Tagging)</title>
				<category>Social Media And Tagging</category>
<description>The concept is nice. I was contemplating the idea, too. I reckon Wit was playing with one site=one idea style, no report from him yet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;d figure a better way would be to put it in a section of a site after a while not to be too rude to the interested parties and those, who linked to it. It&amp;#39;d simply give more weight to the domain you move it to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Or just place several links to your most important pages on the site w/o moving it, that&amp;#39;d work nicely, too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The thing is, you can always play further with the idea and branch it out in more social media content. And you have the audience by then, too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;P.S. Too bad the content is in an image. It&amp;#39;d be much, much better in text. And it needs more work, imho. But the idea is nice.</description>

<description>I&amp;#39;m scratching my head over this website oddity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The company is &lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=%2Fmoc.yawahtaherihskreb.www%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/' target='_blank'&gt;Berkshire Hathaway&lt;/a&gt;. The name may not be too familiar, but most likely, the CEO&amp;#39;s name will ring a bell. His name is Warren Buffet, who recently overtook Bill Gates as the richest man in the world.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I can&amp;#39;t quite figure out is the &amp;#39;why&amp;#39;. Why would a company that did over &amp;#036;118 billion in revenue last year have a website that looks likes he hired a kid to do it for &amp;#036;100 bucks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I know Mr. Buffet enjoys investing in companies with low cost structures. <title>Lyle: Converting An Phone # Post To A Timezone Variable (Web Site Programming)</title>
				<category>Web Site Programming</category>
<description>Yes, you&amp;#39;ll need to use &amp;#036;offset as the value in your PHP - that&amp;#39;s the time difference you needed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So your PHP would be&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#036;offset1 = &amp;#036;_REQUEST[&amp;quot;time_zone_c&amp;quot;]; &lt;br /&gt;&amp;#036;offset = &amp;#036;offset1/60;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It&amp;#39;s divided by 60 for minutes because the javascript timezoneoffset is done in minutes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hell, you could change it in the html to say&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;var x = d.getTimezoneOffset()/60; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;which will then give you the time offset on the html in hours instead of mins. It&amp;#39;s up to you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A return value of 420 would be something like GMT + 7 hours , if that helps. I don&amp;#39;t know where your &lt;strike&gt;server&lt;/strike&gt; [Edit : Doh&amp;#33; It&amp;#39;s not the server this is working on, is it? I meant &amp;#39;client&amp;#39; as in webclient/browser etc.] is based. For me in the UK it returns +60 (i.e. GMT + 1 hour, which is (of course) BST ).</description>

<title>SEOigloo: Question For Bloggers Re: Multiple Topics (Blogs, RSS and Syndication)</title>
				<category>Blogs, RSS and Syndication</category>
<description>Hi Kulpreet Singh,&lt;br /&gt;If the blog is a business blog (for example, dealing mainly with SEO, or design) why not have a personal/creative category in addition to your technical categories? If you keep the category name broad enough, you could put pretty much anything in it that didn&amp;#39;t fit in your tech categories?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We did this on our blog. We have a section called Inside the Igloo where I&amp;#39;ve posted stuff like news about us, awards, etc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That might not be quite what you are looking to do, but I think I&amp;#39;d rather see randomness organized into one category rather than a long list of random categories with only a post or two in it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Good luck with this. I like your idea of The Hunt&amp;#33;&lt;br /&gt;Miriam</description>

Yet, when we do enough control +, it&amp;#39;s still eventually making the lower green boxes jump over into the main body of the blog.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here are the sections of the stylesheet I&amp;#39;ve changed:&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--quoteo--&gt;&lt;div class='quotetop'&gt;QUOTE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='quotemain'&gt;&lt;!--quotec--&gt;#sidebar {&lt;br /&gt; float:left;&lt;br /&gt; width:150px;&lt;br /&gt; height:100%;&lt;br /&gt; margin:0 0 0 1px;&lt;br /&gt; padding:0 2%;&lt;br /&gt; padding-left:1px;&lt;br /&gt; padding-top:0px;&lt;br /&gt; font-family:Tahoma, Arial, Verdana, times, serif;&lt;br /&gt; background: #fceec2;&lt;br /&gt; font-size:8pt;&lt;br /&gt;}&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;(the width used to be at 20%)&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;#content {&lt;br /&gt; float:right;&lt;br /&gt; background:#FFFFFF;&lt;br /&gt; color:#333;&lt;br /&gt; width:547px;&lt;br /&gt; margin:0 1px 0 0;&lt;br /&gt; padding:0 4% 0 0; &lt;br /&gt;}&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;(the width used to be at 73%)&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Here is the section of the sidebar I&amp;#39;ve changed - the table that contains the list of articles:&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;table width=&amp;quot;140&amp;quot; bgcolor=&amp;quot;#daecad&amp;quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;tr&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;td align=&amp;quot;center&amp;quot; valign=&amp;quot;top&amp;quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;b&gt;Our Most Recent Articles:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/td&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/tr&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;..etc&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;(the table width used to be set at 100%)&lt;!--QuoteEnd--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--QuoteEEnd--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is there something else I should change to prevent the error from happening?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thanks, Joe &amp;amp; Barry.&lt;br /&gt;Miriam</description>

<title>Ron Carnell: Question For Bloggers Re: Multiple Topics (Blogs, RSS and Syndication)</title>
				<category>Blogs, RSS and Syndication</category>
<description>The real question here is whether you want to think of your blog as a series of short stories, related perhaps but otherwise distinct, or whether your blog is going to be a novel? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why the distinction? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Because no one wants to read 500 pages of non-stop action. No one want to read 500 pages of sultry romance, either. Or page after page after page of humor. A novel may well concentrate on any one of these things, but it has to offer a balance of sorts because action gets pretty boring unless carefully woven with less exciting fare. It&amp;#39;s the contrast that gives action or romance or humor its edge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It&amp;#39;s called pacing and it&amp;#39;s often one of the hardest things for a writer to master. In my opinion, yes, a blogger should definitely mix it up a bit. It shouldn&amp;#39;t be haphazard or spontaneous, though. It should be very carefully planned. Got a really big, really important post in the works? Slow down the pace a little &lt;b&gt;before&lt;/b&gt; making that big post, and your big post will seem all the bigger because your readers have been prepared to ramp up their heart rates. If your mix-up post can subtly foreshadow what is to come, so much the better. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes, I think you have to step back and look at the bigger picture. You can bet your readers do, even if only subconsciously.</description>

<title>Respree: Question For Bloggers Re: Multiple Topics (Blogs, RSS and Syndication)</title>
				<category>Blogs, RSS and Syndication</category>
<description>Although I&amp;#39;m not a blogger or read many blogs, I would venture to guess its pretty difficult to write something out of the ordinary &lt;b&gt;every&lt;/b&gt; time (that hasn&amp;#39;t been regurgitated a thousand times before). I tend to gravitate toward insightful, thought-provoking styles of writing that I can relate to. Many times, an interesting personal story about a certain situation hits home for me and makes me connect with the author in ways a very clinical, impersonal style cannot.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I see nothing wrong with the ocassional vent, but if the blog or site is riddled with them, I find I&amp;#39;m not attracted to negativity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In terms of annoying readers, I think comments (or perhaps, lack thereof) can give you some good indicators of whether they found what you&amp;#39;ve written annoying. Keep in mind, however, about taking comments with a grain of salt. What the minority may have found annoying, could also be the same article that the majority found spectacular.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Not sure if these thoughts are helping any, but that&amp;#39;s what I think, for what its worth. </description>

<title>EGOL: Question For Bloggers Re: Multiple Topics (Blogs, RSS and Syndication)</title>
				<category>Blogs, RSS and Syndication</category>
<description>Matt Cutts is a very popular blogger and often has posts divergent from his &amp;quot;Gadgets, Google and SEO&amp;quot; theme. Some are on recreation that he enjoys and some about his cats. He is a very influential person with very valuable things to say... so that gives him an unusual opportunity to deviate beyond his &amp;quot;gadgets, google and SEO&amp;quot;. He could write about dust balls under his couch and Cuttlets would read it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If I wrote about cats on my blog I don&amp;#39;t think that I could get away with it. I think that a person might gauge their ability to depart from their theme by the types of comments that people post on those departing posts. If you get no comments then those posts are stinking up your blog. If you get lots of nice comments and questions then you can get away with it. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To be safe you should always allow just a few lines of these posts to display on the front page of your blog.... I don&amp;#39;t want to scroll and scroll and scroll to get past the pictures of a bloggers pets.</description>

<description>Thanks for tell us about the blog post. I enjoyed it. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A few reactions....&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You said... &amp;quot;the more you pay the more visible your Adwords will be&amp;quot;.... I get it now.. that&amp;#39;s the same thing as, &amp;quot;the more links you pay for the higher your SERPs&amp;quot;. You are right. And, I never viewed it that way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also...&amp;quot;Such a clear distinction is what the Federal Trade Commission has ruled must occur on Search Engine Report Pages (SERP’s).&amp;quot;.... I didn&amp;#39;t know that. I thought that a search engine could do ANYTHING on their property.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OK... so based upon that concept, would the presence/absense of Adsense on a website be an inappropriate element of their webpage ranking algo? How about Yahoo&amp;#33; demoting pages that run Adsense?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Great blog post, thanks again.</description>

				<description>I&amp;#39;ve just been playing with this myself (just for fun - I really *am* that said)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have to say, I&amp;#39;m not great with Javascript, so putting the value into the function is becoming a pain in the bum.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what I&amp;#39;ve done is just put in a javascript piece where the input should go, letting j/script do the hard work so I didn&amp;#39;t have to. *grin*&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;script type=&amp;quot;text/javascript&amp;quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;var d = new Date();&lt;br /&gt;var x = d.getTimezoneOffset();&lt;br /&gt;document.write(&amp;quot;&lt;input type=&amp;#39;hidden&amp;#39; name=&amp;#39;offset&amp;#39; value=&amp;#39;&amp;quot; + x + &amp;quot;&amp;#39;/&gt;&amp;quot;);&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/script&gt;</description>

<title>yannis: Php - First Words Of A Text (Web Site Programming)</title>
				<category>Web Site Programming</category>
<description>Alas PHP 5.0 and less does not understand unicode&amp;#33; It is hopefully coming in PHP 6.0. There are work arounds where you can use mb string functions etc or some libraries but support is patchy. Strange enough regular expressions understand unicode chracters if you use the U modifier.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If I understand it correctly the script you are trying to use counts a number of words from a string, try this.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#036;pattern=&amp;#39;/(&amp;#092;b[[:alpha:]]+&amp;#092;b){0,5}/Uisx&amp;#39;;&lt;br /&gt;preg_match_all(&amp;#036;pattern,&amp;#036;text,&amp;#036;values);&lt;br /&gt;print_r(&amp;#036;values);&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Replace the 5 for the number of words or use a variable. Use a character class rather than a-z, which will only see the normal characters. (&amp;#036;text is your string);&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hope it helps&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yannis</description>

				<title>bwelford: Google - Publisher Or Advertiser? (Google)</title>
				<category>Google</category>
<description>I hope you&amp;#39;re right, Egol, that Google&amp;#39;s rankings will be determined by searchers&amp;#39; clicks. After all, its relevance to the searcher that counts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I still feel that Google chooses not to grapple with the thorny problem of major companies which may have a whole network of interconnected websites. Buying paid links is a much more visible way of improving SERP ranking that major companies do not need to use. Paid links are a very minor part of the reason why rankings may be distorted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Given that Google has an Adwords program, which is a competitor of paid links, I do feel this raises some ethics questions. Should Google perhaps have an ethical journalism policy as the New York Times has? As Ron pointed out, newspapers are wrestling with this editorial / advertising dilemma. Newspapers are going through hard times financially. Google can hardly claim that as a reason for its actions. I&amp;#39;ve discussed this at greater length in a &lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=lmth.ammelid-lacihte-knil-diap-elgoog%2F50%2F8002%2Fbbrehto%2Fac.laertnomgnitekramcigetarts.www%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://www.strategicmarketingmontreal.ca/otherbb/2008/05/google-paid-link-ethical-dilemma.html' target='_blank'&gt;blog post today&lt;/a&gt;.</description>

<title>kulpreet_singh: Question For Bloggers Re: Multiple Topics (Blogs, RSS and Syndication)</title>
				<category>Blogs, RSS and Syndication</category>
<description>Hi everyone,&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;ve started this new thing on my blog called &amp;quot; The Hunt&amp;quot; where I point out a problem and throughout the week I solicit input from others in the relevant fields for ways to solve/kill the problem. I&amp;#39;ll be taking excerpts from peoples comments to put up on the blog. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;d appreciate your input on this one: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many bloggers have faced this issue. You start a blog to focus on a few topics in a general field or industry, but sometimes you feel the urge / need / responsibility to write something out of the ordinary. It might be due to a necessity, or just for fun. You might need to vent, or you might be excited about some personal accomplishment. In any case, you don’t want to annoy your readers who regularly visit for the specific topics you introduced at the start. In fact, let’s say you don’t only want to write these topics once in a while, but you always want to write on different issues. So is it more advantageous to have more blogs to cover the different areas, or should you keep it all on one blog? If so, how?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;thank you,&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-kulpreet singh&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

				<description>No, you do it all on one form, then process in php (or ASP, although I&amp;#39;d have to look at date functions in that)  and (having looked at the j/script date object) it turns out you can make life even easier by using the getTimezoneOffset method.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;HTML :&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;script type=&amp;quot;text/javascript&amp;quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  var d = new Date();&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/script&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;form&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;input type=&amp;#39;hidden&amp;#39; name=&amp;#39;clientdatetime&amp;#39; value=&amp;#39;java script:document.write(d.getTimezoneOffset());&amp;#39;/&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  [whatever else is in the form]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/form&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;PHP:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;?&lt;br /&gt;  &amp;#036;time_offset = &amp;#036;_REQUEST[&amp;quot;clientdatetime&amp;quot;];&lt;br /&gt;  &amp;#036;offset = &amp;#036;time_offset/60;&lt;br /&gt;  [all the other form processing]&lt;br /&gt;?&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Job done.&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<description>For the timezone part - and bear in mind it won&amp;#39;t handle things like daylight savings - is to use javascript to set a hidden input field with just the date/time (which&amp;#39;ll also help take into account international date line issues)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When the form is submitted, compare the j/script-generated date/time to the server time (or to gmt time, which is possibly easier, using PHP&amp;#39;s gmdate() function ) .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The difference will be your time zone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;gmdate(&amp;quot;H&amp;quot;) - j/script_hour = time_difference&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hope that makes sense.</description>

<title>jason_sot: Converting An Phone # Post To A Timezone Variable (Web Site Programming)</title>
				<category>Web Site Programming</category>
<description>ok so I am trying to figure out the best/easiest way to create a TimeZone variable based on a leads phone number that they enter into a form.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Curretnly, we have a website with a form (http posting) that posts to a php processing page that dumps the data into our CRM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My thoughts are to add to the php processing page a way to grab the phone number, strip it down, calculate the time zone based on the 1st 3 digits, assign it to a new variable to be posted along with the lead info... and possibly, while Im at it, reformat the phone number to a dedicated format.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Any ideas?</description>

				<description>OK, I&amp;#39;ve had a proper look at this now, and it seems like they&amp;#39;ve made it more complex than it needs to be.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As such, I&amp;#39;ve rewritten it using explode instead of str_word_count , and it seems to work nicely regardless of characters etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--c1--&gt;&lt;div class='codetop'&gt;CODE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='codemain'&gt;&lt;!--ec1--&gt;function first_words&amp;#40;&amp;#036;string, &amp;#036;num, &amp;#036;tail=&amp;#39;&amp;amp;nbsp;...&amp;#39;&amp;#41;&lt;br /&gt;{&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;/** words into an array **/&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;#036;words = explode&amp;#40;&amp;#34; &amp;#34;, &amp;#036;string&amp;#41;;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;/*** get the first &amp;#036;num words ***/&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;#036;firstwords = array_slice&amp;#40; &amp;#036;words, 0, &amp;#036;num&amp;#41;;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;/** return words in a string **/&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;return&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;implode&amp;#40;&amp;#39; &amp;#39;, &amp;#036;firstwords&amp;#41;.&amp;#036;tail;&lt;br /&gt;}&lt;!--c2--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--ec2--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[Edited to take out the debugging stuff I&amp;#39;d added]</description>

				<description>Okay... please note that I suck at programming...&lt;br /&gt;Additionally... I&amp;#39;m sure someone will poitn out a much simplier method (and/or a better one&amp;#33;)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;create a new array, using &lt;br /&gt;explode(&amp;#39; &amp;#39;,&amp;#036;textitem)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then foreach through, assigning a key&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the foreach, create an If statement&lt;br /&gt;the condition being that the &amp;#036;key is lt X&lt;br /&gt;(X being the number of words to return)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;inside the If condition, create a new array&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;close the If&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Close the foreach&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The use implode (&amp;#39; &amp;#39;,&amp;#036;nameofnewarraybasedonkey)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then output the contents....&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;as I said, I&amp;#39;m not a programmer... but this is what I use in Xaraya...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--c1--&gt;&lt;div class='codetop'&gt;CODE&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class='codemain'&gt;&lt;!--ec1--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;xar&amp;#58;set name=&amp;#34;breakinput&amp;#34;&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;explode&amp;#40;&amp;#39; &amp;#39;,&amp;#036;inputtext&amp;#41;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;/xar&amp;#58;set&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;xar&amp;#58;foreach in=&amp;#34;&amp;#036;breakinput&amp;#34; key=&amp;#34;&amp;#036;key&amp;#34; value=&amp;#34;&amp;#036;value&amp;#34;&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;#60;xar&amp;#58;if condition=&amp;#34;&amp;#036;key lt 6&amp;#34;&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;#60;xar&amp;#58;set name=&amp;#34;buildoutput&amp;#91;&amp;#93;&amp;#34;&amp;#62;#&amp;#036;value#&amp;#60;/xar&amp;#58;set&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;#60;/xar&amp;#58;if&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;/xar&amp;#58;foreach&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;xar&amp;#58;set name=&amp;#34;output&amp;#34;&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;implode&amp;#40;&amp;#39; &amp;#39;,&amp;#036;buildoutput&amp;#41;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#60;/xar&amp;#58;set&amp;#62;&lt;br /&gt;#&amp;#036;output#&lt;br /&gt;&lt;!--c2--&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!--ec2--&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As I said, not perfect, but seems to work... and I tested with chacters including &amp;aacute; &amp;amp; ^ &amp;#036;</description>

<title>Jozian: Mobile Site For Indy 500 Fans (Website Hospital)</title>
				<category>Website Hospital</category>
<description>Hi all. It&amp;#39;s been a while since I have been able to post in Cre8, thought i have been following a few discussions. Since I have been hired at ChaCha.com they have kept me very busy&amp;#33; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;One of the things I do for ChaCha is to build tools and UI&amp;#39;s to make our Guides faster and more effective. Some of these efforts are more generalized and others are focused on a specific content area. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;For focused content like Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Music Festival and the Indy 500, I&amp;#39;ve employed wiki strategies to make content easier to locate and more quickly indexed. If the content is new, dynamic, or low on Google&amp;#39;s priority list, it can take hours or days to see it. If I can get it into a wiki, the internal indexing makes it findable immediately. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;A focused content portal can also add value in its ability to organize info and quickly convey complex relationships. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;ve endeavored to do this with a some tools I have created for the Indy 500, as ChaCha is an official sponsor of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and this event. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Some of those tools are internal, but others appear to me to have some public value, including this &lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=moc.ahcahc.tnetnoc005ydni%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://indy500content.chacha.com' target='_blank'&gt;mobile-optimized Indy 500 portal&lt;/a&gt;. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=moc.ahcahc.tnetnoc005ydni%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://indy500content.chacha.com' target='_blank'&gt;http://indy500content.chacha.com&lt;/a&gt; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;I&amp;#39;m seeking your input and thoughts on the site, both for web and for mobile access.&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;One thing I&amp;#39;m already working on is a way to use Google CSE and Ajax API to integrate search results into a single page. While this is in the works, I think the custom search results are pretty powerful anyway, but usage may not be as intuitive as it could be. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Note that there is no real menu structure presented on the main page, it&amp;#39;s more of a long list. Does that work or does it need more organization? &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;From the mobile perspective, a lot of the links on the main page go to non-mobile-centric places. Ok? Or should they be otherwise identified/deleted ? &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Overall, these wikis are valuable internally to our Guides. Do they have external value or should I keep them hidden as I have in the past?&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;</description>

I dont get why? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyone got a solution to this problem, or maybe another way to get the same result? :-)</description>

<description>As rynert suggests, they are temporary files. If you preview your webpages whilst running contribute (or any other application), a temporary file is created. If you then upload all your webpages to the server while the application is still running you will copy across all these temp files.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can safely delete all these files from the server. If you don&amp;#39;t want this to happen again, don&amp;#39;t preview the webpages before uploading.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hope this helps.</description>

<title>fisicx: Landing Pages (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>Re-reading all the posts it seems that confusion stems from the definition of a landing page. According to SEObook et al, a landing page is defined as: &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The page on which a visitor arrives after clicking on a link or advertisement. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Which means any page on the site can be a landing page. It may be that you want to track visitors to a particular page. You can do this using an analytics package - there are plenty to choose from. You may want to limit how people get to a particular page (as Ron suggests) and provide a single point of entry. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;But supposing you have this orphan page. How are your going to test its effectiveness? How will you know if people respond to your call to action? How are you going to entice them to return and consider the rest of the website? &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;If the whole site was linked and each page built to meet a specific purpose then surely this would be better for the visitor. There is no need to create a specific page to manage links from a blog or advert or social media site. All you need do is point to the most relevant page on the website. The analytics will tell you how people arrived at this landing page. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;As projectphp said, you seem to be creating a problem that doesn&amp;#39;t exist. Build the site with SEO in mind, then market specific pages using blogs, adverts and social media and then use an analytics package to see how people arrived on each page and what they did next.</description>

				<category>Computer Maintenance and Security</category>
<description>Hi Guys,&lt;br /&gt;Well, I learned a ton from this thread&amp;#33; You sent me in a bunch of different directions of research and now I feel so much better informed about my options.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That particular house we were looking at just wasn&amp;#39;t going to work out, but as we keep looking in the country, I feel much better prepared now to deal with options like satellite, etc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Understanding FAP is really important, too&amp;#33; A whole different world out there.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I sincerely thank everyone for the amazing replies to this thread. I know it would help anyone who comes across it seeking information&amp;#33;&lt;br /&gt;Miriam</description>

<title>jaybong: Seeing Massive Increases In Se Traffic? (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>I just checked the most popular keywords used in keyphrases (from AwStats) and plugged them into Google Analytics comparing the past 4 days to the same 4 day period last week. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Although there is an improvement in some keywords that are based around recent events in the niche, there is also an improvement for generic keywords that are often used to find content related to the niche. If it was just a topical spike I would expect the generic keywords to be still sending the same amount of traffic.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;(Some of the generic keywords have nothing to do with the topical keywords so I don&amp;#39;t think they are influencing each other - for example a spike in &amp;quot;barrack obama&amp;quot; might also trigger a spike in &amp;quot;politics&amp;quot;. I don&amp;#39;t think that is the case here).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

<title>A.N.Onym: Seeing Massive Increases In Se Traffic? (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>Just to make it clear, I am not talking about long tail phrases. I am talking about single words that are used in phrases. AwStats shows such statistics, for example. The topic can be spread over the entire site, though given not a single page is popular, it can very well be just the extended results of design change, though.</description>

<title>jaybong: Seeing Massive Increases In Se Traffic? (Search Engine Optimization)</title>
				<category>Search Engine Optimization</category>
<description>Yeah I thought of that, but there doesn&amp;#39;t seem there has been any big news that would cause the sudden spike, and I have also looked at the page views of the top 100 or so pages (ranked in terms of page views) which haven&amp;#39;t spiked either. Most articles on the site get less than 100 visits/article and this hasn&amp;#39;t changed. In the last few days there are only a couple articles with more then 100 page views. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Looking through the long tail keywords there is a noticeable improvement but it it across the board, not just related to a couple of particular topics.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have been monitoring the site for over a year and haven&amp;#39;t seen anything like this - SE traffic usually goes up, but around 5%/month, not 40% in 4 days.</description>

<description>I haven&amp;#39;t done any precise time measurements but I&amp;#39;m sure if I did the saving would be considerable. I would guess a 50% reduction.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The other advantage is that you can relax. It&amp;#39;s no longer like working. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;later edit&gt;&lt;br /&gt;@Respree That A.L.I.C.E. site could be addictive. I&amp;#39;d never seen that before. <description>I type pretty fast, too, but compared to speech, still a bit slower. And much slower, than I think, too =)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And yes, talking is more natural, than typing. Though editing is what scares me. Might make a good speaking practice, too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Still, have you compared how much faster it takes you to talk a post up instead of writing? Basically, that&amp;#39;s the only reason I can consider DNS for now.</description>

<description>I think what&amp;#39;s even more impressive than talking to your blog is having your blog talk back to you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I remember seeing a program called A.L.I.C.E. a couple of years ago. Just revisited the site a couple of minutes ago and boy its that entertaining.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think they call them &amp;#39;chatbots&amp;#39;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have a look (click on the leftmost link that says &amp;quot;Chat with Alice&amp;quot;).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href='http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/redirect/jump.php?url=%2Fmoc.topsgolb.tobecila%2F%2F%3Aptth' title='http://alicebot.blogspot.com/' target='_blank'&gt;http://alicebot.blogspot.com/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Would love to hear from anyone who knows how this works. <description>Well, then your site might have covered the news that the Americans and Canadians are interested in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Maybe playing with the keyword data might reveal it. For example, do you have the data for the most popular keywords used in phrases? That might help.</description>
