From the Inside Adwords blog -

Over the coming weeks we'll be testing a new tool called the Website Optimizer that can help you find out which content will convert best on your site. Whether you define a conversion as a purchase or a newsletter sign-up, Website Optimizer allows you to experiment with different headlines, copy, and images on your site in order to find out which combination results in the most conversions. You can use this tool on your landing page or any page that represents a conversion.

A tool with a great potential for non-adwords users / webmasters too.

I thought that this patent application was interesting in light of the Website Optimizer being released recently beyond the invitation only version that Whitemark pointed to in this thread.

Traffic prediction for web sites

Here's a snippet:

[0042] Web designers may use traffic prediction component 235 to predict how users will interact with various web layouts. Predicting how a user is likely to interact with a page may help the designer arrange elements within the page.

But the focus of the patent application is to create traffic profiles based upon information collected at sites so that the user behavior information can be used to combat click fraud.
