  1. I am revamping a website and there will be links. As a rule, I let links open in the same window. It just seemed to make sense, especially with phones and little teeny weeny browser tabs. I noticed facebook opens links in a NEW window. Since Mark Zuckerberg is probably the smartest guy in the world and has managed to turn my time into his money without my even knowing, or caring, why should I not open links in a new window the way he does?

    Open Graph

It is working but I am still getting the errors in spite of the fact that all the meta data is in place. But it is working to a degree. The description function does not seem to work but I assume that is a problem with FB.

    Open Graph

I think I have it. <!DOCTYPE html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:fb="http://ogp.me/ns/fb#"> <html> <head> then the meta tag. Images works fine but not the title or description. Maybe in the morning.
  4. Is there a place where I can see how open graph works but explained to me as if I were a 4 year old. My sites are not showing an image. I have <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:fb="http://ogp.me/ns/fb#">in the head and also <meta property="og:image" content="with the entire url here" /> I went to the facebook debuger page and it shows an image but also gives me errors like The 'og:url' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags. and Share App ID Missing The 'fb:app_id' property should be explicitly provided, Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog. I am stumped as I have no clue what an app id is.
  5. I am not sure. I just moved the site back to a url I used for years and there are probably some links still out there. The site is so different that I would want to do 301 redirects to stop errors. I have never done any bizarre link building so probably in a general way for now. We use to do links with other wedding sites before links became a ranking factor back in the 90's. It's a mess. I probably should have paid someone when I could afford to pay someone!
  6. In that case is there a way to know which companies are better? Sort of a comparison site that lists features of several companies? I guess if I pay I would get other tools as well.
  7. I am trying to find a tool or free service that will show me inbound links to my site. I tried a service called majestic but they charge for detailed reports.
  8. Lately I have been looking for sourdough bread recipes. Almost without exception the results start out with lengthy text talking about bread, sourdough bread and everything except a recipe. The recipe is usually at the end of the article. Almost without fail. Is this coincidence? Are pages being written this way on purpose? These pages are coming up at the top of the organic results but as far as usability they suck. I am tempted to try this out but I can't get over the thought of how many visitors might bounce. Almost as annoying are the popups to "join our email list".
  9. I have removed the .htaccess redirect that changes the http to https. Now the cart is secure where it needs to be and the rest of the site is back to the way it was. I am still in the dark with the secure even though we have been using it for years on the cart. There must be a better way to call the pages as https besides the .htaccess rewrite. One strange thing though, I crawled the site with the seo chat broken link checker and all kinds of mysterious 404 errors came up but when I crawl with sml-sitemaps the crawl comes back clean. No broken links.
  10. I am working on another logo, something a little shorter but more up to date. The login page is a throw back to the original site with no header or footer. For some reason the form was not working when I put it in the responsive template I use for the rest of the site. I did not check the links and this is number one and two on the punch list. I was hoping the users could list the shows as they have all the info. I rare cases I can do it but if it gets busy I don't want to spend a lot of time listing shows. I am not sure where the "add a show" link is you are referring to but I guess I will go through and add more links to the login page. Even though there is a link in the main navigation people can miss it. In the past we have emailed show promoters to let them know about the site but we are waiting to finish the work before we have another go at that. People are finding the site and listing a few shows a week as it is and I hope to build on that. The goal is to sell ads to people who supply the craft industry and people who are generally interested in arts and crafts as well as to bring awareness to arts and crafts in general.
  11. Sorry, this is for https://www.theweddingdept.com/sitemap.xml The trouble is in the google webmaster tools console the http is coded in so I can not enter https The artsandcraftsnetwork does not have a secure cert at this time. That site is a whole nuther can of worms! Here is a screen capture of the webmaster tools interface for submitting a sitemap. Even when I try to call this image it needs to be https://theweddingdept.com/sitemap.png
  12. I have applied my newly found responsive code to the artsandcraftsnetwork.com page. The directory is php I stitched together. The blog is wordpress. I also have a code to insert targeted ads based on the zip code of a show. Some of the listings are a bit old and I was trying to decide if it would be better to purge them or leave them up and notify the owner/member to update. But people are using it and the directory script seems to be working. The color will be changed to blue hues. I was working with an un-calibrated laptop and ended up with sick purple. cc please

    New Launch

Nice and clean. I like the search function. I just notice the contact link at the bottom does not work. And the privacy policy link. Also there is no favicon how picky should I be?
  14. My site is now https secure. They wanted it, they get it. Trouble is google is looking for http and I have a .htaccess work around to convert everything to https so visitors are not seeing an error. Is there another way to submit a sitemap? I have an https site map on site. Trouble is I can not include any other data.
