  1. Have to agree about click disabling. Sometimes, I want to share something in an email or elsewhere. If you won't let me...I can't share.

    Client Wants To Update Site

Donna, That's really neat to hear your opinion on WordPress e-commerce solutions. We tried one maybe 4 years ago and it was a nightmare!!! Maybe they've gotten lots better. Thanks for noting this here.
  4. Thank you so much, Donna! That really helps!!
  5. Hi Donna & Egol, So it does sound as if there is some grey area here and I will just have to see what happens. Thanks for the feedback. Can anyone answer my other question regarding clickable internal links within a PDF file? I don't believe I've ever seen this before, but I do want to know if it's possible. Thanks!
  6. Hi All, Though I've worked with PDF files since time beyond recall, I really don't consider myself to be very familiar with all of the ins and outs of them. I am 95% finished with the authoring of a cookbook that I plan to sell on one of my websites. The project has taken the better part of a year and I'm pretty excited that I'm almost ready! What I am now trying to understand is how to create a table of contents at the beginning of the cookbook. My questions are: - If I designate a page number for each recipe, will Adobe reproduce the cookbook the same across all computers? In other words, if my PDF file says a recipe for sweet potato cakes is on page 23, will it be on everyone's page 23? - Is it a common practice for digital tables of contents to be clickable so that the user can click an item and be taken to it within the PDF file? Or, are they expected to scroll? If the former, how is that coded? If you have experience in these two areas that you can share with me, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.
  7. Appears this may be affecting Local as well. Hearing stuff from other Local SEOs who are seeing ranking shakeups. I really liked Rand's recent Whiteboard Friday on this at SEOmoz about potential spam signals.
  8. Thanks for linking to this Egol. The pinterest example is really eye opening. Not shocking...but whoa!

    New Business Directory

Hi Walter! Wow, congratulations! I'm really excited for you. What a big undertaking. I've only taken a cursory glance at the site so just have a couple of tips to share: 1. I think you need at least some little bit of visual appeal going on with the site. If you live in Racine, go take a couple of photos and work them into the masthead or into some kind of greeting box up top of the homepage. I'm a fan of minimalism, but to me, the site is just a little bit vanilla right now. Visual cues would also assist Racine residents in realizing they are 'at home'. 2. If you want businesses to add their own listing so that the site grows, I'm not seeing an invitation up front to do so. Where is it? A nice big 'Add Your Business' link should be prominent in proportion to this function's importance to your business model. 3. What about something telling people why they should list their business. I really hope you do start getting picked up eventually by Google as a citation source for your city. Why should people list with you? Just a few quick thoughts. Again, congratulations on your launch!
  10. MaryKrysia, Thank you for sharing remembersegregation.org. That was incredibly powerful. I've never seen it before. The designer who thought that splash page up is brilliant. It made me feel totally disturbed...precisely as it was supposed to. Imagine that...imagine if we were dealing with one Internet for white people and one for black people. Gosh, what an absolutely terrible idea! So, Kim, check out MaryKrysia's link. There is a website almost guaranteed to elicit emotion due to its strong content.
  11. Jon, that looks really good!!! Thank you for finding that. I had never heard of it. Cool! I bet that will work. I appreciate it.
  12. Here's something at: http://www.hashemian...atom-widget.htm We'll see if this one works. Hey...this almost looks like when we get spammers in here pretending they don't know what something is and then happening to answer 2 posts later with a link to their own crappy company. I promise...I'm not doing this
  13. Hi Egol, Thanks for the advice...we aren't at all conversant with PERL programming, unfortunately. It's a shame because your solution sounds excellent. Michael, thank you for replying. I'm wondering what I should search for to discover a javascript feed for this function. I will search, and if I find one, I will post the link here. In the meantime, if anyone knows of something like Michael is describing (or something totally different that would work) I would appreciate your contribution to this discussion. Thank you!
  14. Hi Everybody, I have a technical question. The site in question is an html site with an onsite WP blog. The site is not a PHP site. Is there a way to snag recent blog posts (like the titles of them - not the whole posts) and have them appear automatically on some area of the homepage, if the homepage is just an html page? Obviously, there are plugins for this if the whole site were WP-based, but it isn't. Any way to do this? I would really appreciate any answers. Thanks!
  15. Wow! This is such a neat development to see happen. Can't wait to see how this works out over the coming months.
