Nice stock photo gallery

Recommended Posts

Just came across an interesting royalty free stock photo gallery.

www.absolutvision.com

Costs $99 per year for full membership. Worth every penny.

Suitable for large format and litho.

You could download nice, free large format images every month if you register as well!

And the site seems to be growing each week with new images!

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the forums. I hope that you enjoy your visits here.

Your post sounds a little like an advertisment for the site you mention.

I suspect that you're just sharing information about them. I hope that you'll stick around and tell us a little about your efforts on the web.

Good to have you here.

Are there specific websites that provide images for use on websites, not super high-res 600x800 images?

What an excellent photo resource post this is turning into!

I only really use stock photos for photoshop battles, morguefile and sxc.hu are the sites I use the most mainly because they are free for non profit work, some of the images on sxc are just amazing well worth a look round. I'm glad we introduced you to it and I'm glad you are back in to photography. When I get a bit more time i will have a good look at your work marc, stuck for time at the moment.

If anyone else has some good stock photo sites, please add them below

thanks

I have been using http://www.matton.com for a while now. They have a great selection of Business, Christmas, Fitness, Sports, and Travel pictures (over 600,000 in total). Their pictures vary in price depending on resolution.

Yotophoto for finding free-to-use photographs and images. Indexes Creative Commons, Public Domain, GNU FDL, and various other 'copyleft' images.

And a good list of publicly available icons: here.

Digital Railroad is another resource I am loving. I usually use Getty but am finding the images are becoming quite common, ie all the comp are using them. DRR has some great stuff and looks after their photographers which I think is important.

I dont do a lot of layout work anymore, but when I'm looking for cost-effective solutions for photos, I've been using dreamstime.com.

Cheap enough that I can use real images in my mockups instead of comps :infinite-banana:

hat tip to Kensplace, the Library of Congress, in conjunction with Flickr, is allowing people to tag and describe images that are part of the Library of Congress collection.

Flickr: The Commons

The images in this collection have "no known copyright restrictions" which likely means that they are in the public domain - impossible to make that statement 100%, but it is quite possible.

If an image was created by someone from the federal government as part of their job (as opposed to something that the Federal government purchased under a license from a copyright holder), then that image should be in the public domain. Images from the US before 1923 should also be within the public domain.

A note on the Flickr Commons page states that this project might expand beyond the Library of Congress collection to include more images from other places.
