      20 Years! Cre8asiteforums 1998 - 2018   01/18/2018

Cre8asiteforums In Its 20th Year In case you didn't know, Internet Marketing Ninjas released many of the online forums they had acquired, such as WebmasterWorld, SEOChat, several DevShed properties and these forums back to their founders. You will notice a new user interface for Cre8asiteforums, the software was upgraded, and it was moved to a new server.  Founder, Kim Krause Berg, who was retained as forums Admin when the forums were sold, is the hotel manager here, with the help of long-time member, "iamlost" as backup. Kim is shouldering the expenses of keeping the place going, so if you have any inclination towards making a donation or putting up a banner, she is most appreciative of your financial support.

Search And Replace Urls In Wordpress

Recommended Posts

How do I search a WordPress site to find and replace URL's?

Ex. Find all http links and replace with https if resolving to one's own server and replacing any outbound absolute links with https where appropriate.

Bad link checker: Costs $0.00 USD

http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

Run it on your site. It will hammer it. You can set concurrent request to 1. At the end you get a report of links, internal and external, which you can sort and check.

Broken Link Checker - much better. Runs behind the scenes all the times, can email you when a link breaks, even checks "broken" links that are not linked (plain text URLS, etc), reports redirects, with option to fix the redirect, gives you the option to link to the web archive when a site disappears, and is also totally free! Does Xeno send you an email when a newly broken link is discovered?

No it runs on your machine. You run it when you decide you want to to run it.

I presume you mean the WP plugin.

That's my point. You have to run Xenu. Better to have something that constantly monitors, reports and suggestions solutions.

Bit late to the party here, but I assume this is due to installing an SSL certificate.

In this case broken link checker won't be the thing because the http links won't be seen as broken.

Apart from what is in the pages and post content, there could be quite a few URLs hidden from a normal search/replace (e.g. in text widgets, custom menu items, older versions of pages etc)

I found that this was useful as it will search replace the actual database. (use with care, backup and then backup again first)

Note that doing a text file search and replace on a downloaded database is not a good idea, can cause all kinds of issues, but this script does a very nice job.

You got it. And the site is quite large. I haven't gone in yet to do this yet, as the site owner is not sure now if they are even keeping the site up. <_<

Velvet URLS worked beautifully and fast. My site is done. I'm working down my list of sites to do. This one https://policeandsecuritynews.com/is funky. The info icon appears but if you click around and then return to the homepage, the locked icon shows up. The theme is widget-heavy.

How do I troubleshoot to see what's messing it up from being all clear?

I don't know how to do it globally but inspect elements in Chrome or other browsers will tell you on a page by page basis

Or a search for <img src="http://

It's the ads. Some are served via HTTPS and some are not. This is the most common point of 'failure', always the first thing to check.

I didn't know that. Does it happen even if you have changed your adsense code to include https:// or use src="//pagead2.googlesyndication..../

Just been using Velvet Blues on a few sites.

It is very very good (worth donating IMO), but it does miss some links in widgets, sliders, etc. so check all those other places.
